jonsmyth Posted October 31, 2009 #1 Posted October 31, 2009 How bad is it? When at highway speeds (50 or above) and I gun it to pass, the clutch slips for a few seconds. Please tell me this can be adjusted "out"! 1987 Y. Venture Royale, 87,000 mi. 215 lb. payload. Recent oil change using oil designed for motorcycle wet clutches at $3 a quart from autozone (Valvoline I think) Is a clutch job a huge deal? Can I do it without a bunch of specialty tools? Some previous posts talk about Heavy Duty springs or an oil fix.
Dano Posted October 31, 2009 #2 Posted October 31, 2009 If the oil jug says "energy-conserving",that alone will make your clutches slip. If it continues, you could double up the clutch springs, do a mod that involves removing the half-ring in the back of the stack and replace it with a full one, all kinds of different things to do. Just do a search on "slipping clutch" here on the forum and see what pops up. Dano
RedRider Posted October 31, 2009 #3 Posted October 31, 2009 There will be others that will jump in here with more experience with first gen clutches. However, rest assured, clutch work is fairly easy and requires no special tools. RR
BOO Posted October 31, 2009 #4 Posted October 31, 2009 Not a big deal, you can do it. Like he said, do a search and there is a post that will lead you through the process. Do the mod, you'll be fine for a while. Actually mine was doing that and I rode it for 5 or 6 thousand miles before fixing it. Good Luck, BOO
Condor Posted October 31, 2009 #5 Posted October 31, 2009 Bleed the clutch and check that the expansion hole at the base of the reserve is not plugged up.
