Whistler Posted October 31, 2009 #1 Posted October 31, 2009 Does any one leave there gas line open w/gas saver in it or do you drain the gas out of carb Ron
frogmaster Posted October 31, 2009 #2 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi Ron, I keep fuel open with STA-BIL and Premium gas on last fill up. Then I start the bike every weekend all winter that is where the Rotell-A SYN 5-40 really pays off in Northern Michigan
MiCarl Posted October 31, 2009 #3 Posted October 31, 2009 I put sta-bil in the fuel. Top off the tank. Run it until the fuel is into the carbs. Battery on tender. Then, if we get an unexpected great day I can ride, just keep sta-bil in the fuel until spring.
bongobobny Posted October 31, 2009 #4 Posted October 31, 2009 Agreed, Stabul and premium gas! Also, when you start it over the winter, make sure you run it for a fairly long time. If you only run it for a minute or two, condensation (water) will form in your exhaust. Ever see a car exhaust drip water in the winter?? No need to tell you what the water in your exhaust will do if left standing...
hunter 1500 Posted October 31, 2009 #5 Posted October 31, 2009 I used to put stabil in the gas and fog the cylanders and then the last few years I havn't bothered because I was told that it is so cold up here that you don't really need to do it. I also was told told that it is not good to start the bike and let it run for just a few minutes. I have followed this procedure and havn't had any problems but each to his own. jm02c
rjg1985 Posted October 31, 2009 #6 Posted October 31, 2009 The last 2 winters I used seafoam in the gas instead of sta-bil. I have not had any problems. The bikes start right up in spring better than they did when I used sta-bil.
First_N_Last Posted October 31, 2009 #7 Posted October 31, 2009 I'm lucky; If it is 45 degrees or above I ride. I don't have to prep for storage because there isn't much of a winter in Richmond, VA. I guess the thing that I'd have to do if the bike was older, is check the radiator fluid for effectiveness. Especially if you live in Iowa were I have biking relatives. They have already had multiple snow storms. When ever I talk to them, I ask them if the glaciers have melted there yet .
Cougar Posted October 31, 2009 #8 Posted October 31, 2009 I totally agree with rjg1985 stable clogged everything up for me went to sea-foam and all is good now after the winter
OutlawRider Posted October 31, 2009 #9 Posted October 31, 2009 How much seafoam are you using for storage. I have sta bil in it now but still have time to run it out and change.
Cougar Posted October 31, 2009 #10 Posted October 31, 2009 I throw in about a half can over the winter, then run it about 10 mins to get into the carbs then shut it off and come back 4 months later *
Yammer Dan Posted October 31, 2009 #11 Posted October 31, 2009 WINTER STORAGE??? A- hum-but- a-you can't mean- Wait a minute didn't we just do this about last week?? We don't have to do this til end of summer!!!
OutlawRider Posted October 31, 2009 #13 Posted October 31, 2009 Cougar, Thanks for the info I,ll get it done. Do not want any problems come a nice day or sring start up.

BIG TOM Posted October 31, 2009 #15 Posted October 31, 2009 now now now,, That is just me saying that about Seafoam vers Stable. Just My Opinion! some have very good luck with it. I do not! Jeff I'm with you ...seafoam...full tank of gas...battery tender...and heated garage....no problems.... start up every three weeks ......fires right up in the spring....I've also been known to take a run into town during the winter when the roads are free of ice..
BOO Posted October 31, 2009 #16 Posted October 31, 2009 I do nothing, did I say it was smart? No buts that's what I do. I haven't had any problems so far. When I winterize I put the bike and the lawn tractor in the back of the garage and the snowblower in the front. Guess what happens in the spring. BOO
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 31, 2009 #18 Posted October 31, 2009 Winter Storage? Never heard of it.
straycatt Posted October 31, 2009 #19 Posted October 31, 2009 I put sta-bil in the fuel. Top off the tank. Run it until the fuel is into the carbs. Battery on tender. Then, if we get an unexpected great day I can ride, just keep Sta-bil in the fuel until spring. I do the same as Carl. The worst thing you can do is to start your bike thru the storage period with out riding it. I have never had a problem with Sta-bil. I use it in everything with a motor. A few years ago I took a snowmobile out of storage that I had put up with Sta-bil three years previously. It fired right up and ran well. That convinced me that Sta-bil works.

bongobobny Posted October 31, 2009 #21 Posted October 31, 2009 Hey, how many Ventureriders does it take to store a motorcycle for the winter???
Richb Posted October 31, 2009 #23 Posted October 31, 2009 I put sta-bil in the fuel. Top off the tank. Run it until the fuel is into the carbs. Battery on tender. Then, if we get an unexpected great day I can ride, just keep sta-bil in the fuel until spring. Same process for me. Never had a problem.
csogbk Posted October 31, 2009 #24 Posted October 31, 2009 Store a bike during the winter?? Hmmmm, interesting.....but why?
Sailor Posted November 1, 2009 #25 Posted November 1, 2009 I used to use sta-bil but I found sea foam works better. I use a half can of sea foam and top up the tank. I run it for about 5 min then shut off the fuel and run it until it stops. I take the battery out and put it on a tender. No problems at all.
