Chrome trim confusion

Hello everyone..a quck question: Just bought this off Ebay, seller says its off an '84 royale (which I have) but cannot for the life of me figure out how it goes on (if it even does go on)..any help or advice? Thanks.. M_Ross[ATTACH]37775[/ATTACH]

Pretty sure that is a trunk trim. At the time they also had lights that were fitted to that piece somehow.

Nothing like some new chrome.

It mounts to the rack your trunk sits on.

I had the trunk off and tried to fit it. I havent seen any with this pointy rear end on it.

Doen't fit around lower part of the trunk? My guess then is they sent you one for the wrong bike.

Man you gonna have to quit putting those pics of that BLUE 84 on here. It causes me to be Depressed. Wanna trade for a UGLY 85?? Only 25k on it!! Might throw in a wife, some kids maybe a few Grandkids?? I'll even steal the neighbors Dog!!!

Doesn't look like any rack I've ever seen before. I think they fed you some wrong info....

That piece might be for the "non" Royale version trunk?

It's smaller and I think it comes to a point at the back.

Did you ever figure out what that rear lightbar was for? I saw these pics of a XS1100 on eBay and it rang a bell on your post.

 

Not quite the same but it's got that pointed back end on it.

Loved the 79 XS1100 I had. Great bike....

That they were Randy. Everbody that I knew that had one ended up busting them up. Fast bike for times. Not a lot of guys were used to the weight and that like of power back then.
