PGR question

i recently joined the PGR and was wondering what the normal dress attire is when you ride the event. when you receive an email notice of an upcoming event, do you just show up at the appointed place and time or do you notify someone? i've looked on the PGR site and didn't really find any answers. thanks to any & all who have input.

The attire is "whatever you are comfortable with" and just show up is all that is required. This is not a club but a respect for our "fallen soldiers". You are always welcome!

I've seen everything except a white shirt & tie at the missions I've attended. You don't need to notify anyone unless one of your riding friends didn't get/see the notice, then invite them. Bring your 3 X 5 flag and collapsible mast if you have one.

Check with your State Captain or Ride Captains....they can and will answer any/all of your questions concerning what we do. That is part of the responsibility they take on with the job.

Everyone here wears their regular biker gear. Most have at least a small PGR patch on the front of their vest or jacket. We are bikers, and no one expects us to dress up fancy. Go on a mission, you will be amazed at the number of people attending the funeral that walk the flag line and thank everyone individualy for attending abd their support.

I have worn my STAR vest a couple times, I have even worn a car club jacket that I wear on some rides. I bought another vest to use with PGR rides etc. As a non-vet (and PGR folks have always made me feel welcome, it is a great group) I won't wear some of the patches that people have earned the right to wear, but I can still put some of the other stuff on. I ride to specifically honor my cousin who was a lifer in the Navy, a Master Chief and all around great guy, and everyone else that has served.

 

Wear what makes you comfortable and safe. I have seen all possible combinations, and as long as you have respect for those that serve, it really makes no difference.

naturbar brings up a good point about notifying somebody, we recently had a rider seriously injured on his way to a pgr escort mission, his family didnt know how to notify us, so we didnt find out about the crash,for about a week later, he is in an induced coma on a respirator, with severe chest trauma, we have since been in touch with the family and have put in motion a dedicated blood drive for him. how does the rest of the country make sure somebody knows where your going and how to get in touch with the pgr, should the worst happen.

Normal biker atire is fine. Some wear the PGR armband available at the PGR store. I wear my vest with the small PGR patch on the front.

As many have said, there's no dress code for the PGR other than wearing some. Thanks for joining. While it is a national organization each state is fairly autonomous so check with your state RC's and SC.

 

In GA we encourage people to ride in groups whenever possible. Especially if you have to travel any distance to get to the staging area for a mission. Obviously we have no control over it but it's always a good idea. We also encourage people to post that they are home safe on the mission thread. (this is a separate informational thread on the GA Forum, not the condolence thread on the Confirmed Mission Forum) What we do can be emotional and it's easy to be distracted so please be careful. We've lost a couple riders in traffic accidents and that's really tragic. They were good people. Loadmaster, we'll be praying for your friend.

Dress for safety, comfort and respect. Many suggestions have been made regarding standard shirts or clothing but PGR has not adopted a dress code or policy for our members. A family may have a special request due to ethnic or religious practices for a specifically colored shirt or other form of attire. Since our mission is “respect,” we do everything in our power to honor those requests. Keep in mind that we are there to respect the family, and check your vests for any patches which may contain offensive language. Those patches can be covered with masking tape for the duration of the mission. Many members have decided to use a vest specific for PGR missions. You will see several different color ball caps at missions. Black hats are worn by National Officers and Regional Captains. Red hats indicate State Captains and Maroon is worn by the Ride Captains. This helps to make them more easily identifiable at missions and events. Blue is worn by the regular members. Green is worn by the Help on the Homefront officers and coordinators.

Actually there is a specific button on the website to donate for the legal fees. All other money must be spent elsewhere. Also, most states have their own funds and 'tax exempt' status so you don't have to give any money at the National level if you don't choose. The funds to maintain the website come from other donations and the sale of PGR merchandise. Most states are pretty self-sufficient financially. At least I know GA is.
