OldBear Posted October 22, 2009 #1 Posted October 22, 2009 Hey guys, got a question for ya? I've put an XM radio (mount on master cylinder) and power it from the cigarette lighter. I also have a Garmin GPS on a ram mount on the other side right above the stock radio. My question: I'm using the power outlet for the XM, but am having to use the internal battery for the GPS. Does anyone know of a "duplex" device that will FIT into the stock power port and allow me to use 12V power for both? The adapter's I've tried will NOT clear the tank when the bars are turned. Ideas?
BEER30 Posted October 23, 2009 #2 Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) I have used a type of connector that looks like a set of pig tails . It has 1 male side and 2 female connectors . They can be had at any auto parts store and Wally-World . I use it when I use my video camera . 1 side connects to a 12v/110v converter to power my camera and the other feeds the lipstick camera which mounts on top of my helmet . I use a piece of shock-cord (bungee) to secure wires . Power converter velcros onto the res. . All the extra wires fit into my windshield bags . BEER30 Edited October 23, 2009 by BEER30
Freebird Posted October 23, 2009 #3 Posted October 23, 2009 A lot of us just split the fairing and hard wire the GPS power.
CMIKE Posted October 23, 2009 #4 Posted October 23, 2009 A lot of us just split the fairing and hard wire the GPS power. and while you are in there you can install a FM Direct Adapter so you will not have to use the AUX port on the Cassette player to get the XM Audio into your speakers and you can hook up the power outlet plug that comes with it under the fairing also so you can free up the power outlet on the inner fairing for charging cell phones and other stuff while on your trips. This FM direct adapter injects the FM modulated signal directly into the FM antenna input of your Radio via the antenna connector. You actually put this little box in series with your AM/FM antenna. With most FM modulators as you travel you run into areas where you get interference and poor audio clarity. When you inject it directly into the antenna port of the AM/FM radio...no interference ever. Another thing you can do...it put an aux splitter and run an aux audio point around your front brake master cylinder for an IPOD or MP3 player. The FM adapters can be found a audio stores and on line.
