undertaker Posted October 22, 2009 #1 Posted October 22, 2009 Hi all. Is there a way to drain the carbs without removing the tank?
Freebird Posted October 22, 2009 #2 Posted October 22, 2009 Yes, there are drain screws on the bottom of the carb bowls. They are kind of hard to see but they are there.
Freebird Posted October 22, 2009 #5 Posted October 22, 2009 I'm not home to look but I'm pretty sure that they are on the back side. So you have to reach through to access them from the opposite side of the bike than the cards you are working on.
painterman67 Posted October 22, 2009 #6 Posted October 22, 2009 http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/1stcarbs3.jpg screw a in the pic or at least that is where i found them on my 91 VR David
Freebird Posted October 22, 2009 #7 Posted October 22, 2009 I looked at his profile and assume that he is talking about his RSV. They are different and and a little harder to get to.
painterman67 Posted October 22, 2009 #8 Posted October 22, 2009 yeah i seen that too. Thats why I went back and edited my original post to add the comment that is where i found them on my first gen. David
ManWithAVision Posted October 22, 2009 #9 Posted October 22, 2009 Is it not easier to just close the fuel tank valve while the engine is running and let them run dry?
painterman67 Posted October 22, 2009 #10 Posted October 22, 2009 http://www.venturerider.org/rsvcarbremoval/image112.jpg Freebird this is out of the second gen tch files. I think it was from a tech you wrote up on how to remove the carbs. Just not sure where the bowl screws are in this pic. David
Kirby Posted October 22, 2009 #11 Posted October 22, 2009 http://www.bikebandit.com/assets/schematics/Yamaha/YA0409055004.gif Number 11 is the drain screw. This picture is from a 2009. All 2 gen. should be similiar. In fact all models should be similiar. The bowl is located on the bottom side of the carbs. Each carb has it's own bowl. Hope this helps.
Yammer Dan Posted October 23, 2009 #13 Posted October 23, 2009 http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/1stcarbs3.jpg screw a in the pic or at least that is where i found them on my 91 VR David It is the screw right above the letter a in the word brass.Lower right corner of each carb. Also the one with the red A pointing to it. Being Color blind I didn't see that one til I looked couple of times!!
TIMEtoRIDE Posted October 23, 2009 #14 Posted October 23, 2009 Can we check the float level using them, or are they just drains?? Can somebody give me a link to "cleaning the pilot/idle circuit"??
