Ponch Posted October 19, 2009 #1 Posted October 19, 2009 I started having the dreaded popping at deceleration again. My AIS is connected and I have new spark plugs (as of June, 5K on them). There is no noticeable cracks in the vacuum lines or carb nipple covers. I do have some leakage at the "Y" pipes. Before the Texas Panhandle Maintenance Day I put a can of 44K in the gas tank, ran it one day, let it sit for three days and then we took off towards North Texas. The popping is gone. If you think you have dirty carburetors and Seafoam hasn't helped, try the 44K. Ponch
V7Goose Posted October 19, 2009 #2 Posted October 19, 2009 More proof that the AIS actually lets you know when there is something about the fuel or ignition that needs attention, and that a properly set up and tuned RSV with the AIS in working order will NOT regularly pop and bang on decel! Thanx for the report Ponch, and glad you got it straightened out so easily. Goose
N3FOL Posted October 19, 2009 #3 Posted October 19, 2009 I have Seafoam in the garage. This is the first time I've heard about 44K. Is this a new product? Where can I get this potent mixture?
V7Goose Posted October 19, 2009 #4 Posted October 19, 2009 Many auto parts stores carry it - a black and yellow can with a pop-top, about half the size of a typical Seafoam can. I have reset the float levels on MANY Royal Stars, and with only a single exception, every bike with more than 10,000 miles on it has always shown a slight orange/brown sediment film inside the float bowls, even from bikes where the owner said they regularly used Seafoam. The only exception was from a bike with about 30,000 miles - the carb bowls were so danged clean I couldn't tell they were not brand new! The owner, Tom in Blanco, TX, told us he used 44K occasionally. Ponch was there when I did that bike, so that is how he knew about the stuff. Based on that one observation, and now Ponch's testimonial, I think I'll switch my allegiance to 44K! Goose

Thanks M8
kyle Posted October 19, 2009 #7 Posted October 19, 2009 my 2005 has 2008 road king mufflers and will pop a little on decel.. but only when the rpms are getting low to the gear ratio if that makes any sense. is this pretty normal??? carbs are synched every 2k miles or sooner if i'm bored.. will plugging the AIS solve this??? it actually sounds tough on long hill decents...
Tom Posted October 19, 2009 #8 Posted October 19, 2009 Ponch and Goose are right,I have used 44K along time and have swered by it but after Goose pulled my carbs apart and it was so clean I will now tell ANYONE,USE IT! It is the ONLY product I have ever used that I saw a BIG difference after I ran a full can thru. I have been quiet about saying anything about it I guess because I was afraid it was my feeble mind thinking it was this good. I buy it off Ebay usually for about 15-16$$$ a can. There is 2 cases on there now for $750.00 . That is 15.62 a can with shipping to me $15.87 a can...good price but lot of money to tie up. Folks my carbs were as Goose said, they looked brand new inside. It also cleans the carbon from the valves,(Coking) and Ive seen this 1st hand on auto engines. Mine does too and it's even more noticeable since I took the baffles out.
Tom Posted October 19, 2009 #10 Posted October 19, 2009 Mine does too and it's even more noticeable since I took the baffles out. As far as I have seen SilvrT any bike that has aftermarket pipes is going to have some pop on decel..I may be totally wrong but I have yet to see one that doesnt..Mine had a slight pop on decel before I went back to my stock pipes even using the 44K so dont expect a miracle there, however you WILL see a smoothing out of the engine AFTER you run a can thru..usually the next day..thats been my experience. I have no interest or reason to push this stuff,I just have used it the last few years and suggested it to a few on here that I know. Tom

Tom could be that my carbs are out of sync again. not too concerned about it at this time. the scoot is "down for the winter" now. I'll be doing maintenance prior to spring and will be syncing them. the popping doesn't really bother me anyhoo.
Ponch Posted October 19, 2009 Author #12 Posted October 19, 2009 About half way to a M&E last year , ol' Wilderbeast started popping and sputtering and barely would idle. It had set about three weeks in the garage without being ran. It was only about thirty miles to the meet and the bike was runing great when I left the house. Gunboat told me about 44K (he heard about it from Tom). We stopped on the way home and got some. Before I got home it ran sweet again.

Tom I went to their site to look up Canadian distributors or sellers and they listed 4 auto shops in my area.. good thing I called them up before running around looking for this stuff because those 4 shops have never heard of the product, let alone carry it.. So once again, here we go, living in the middle of no where to be able to get the good stuff lol.. At least I got my bottle of MotorKote in the mail, wondering if I can get this stuff as well.. Willing to give it a shot.. prolly do the bike good before the winter comes. Cheers
SilvrT Posted October 19, 2009 #14 Posted October 19, 2009 I went to their site to look up Canadian distributors or sellers and they listed 4 auto shops in my area.. Save me the searching ... who are the shops?
Seaking Posted October 19, 2009 #15 Posted October 19, 2009 Save me the searching ... who are the shops? Don't bother, none of the shops in the Maritimes they list never heard of the product.. I think their system is set up to make it look like they have tons of distributors where none exist.. at least not around here.. I'll have to find some and have it shipped here to HFX..

Thanx for the report Ponch, and glad you got it straightened out so easily. Goose Thing is Goose, everyone does not have the mechanical ability to set floats etc. so when they have reached the end of their mechanical road, they do what they can. I got a tank of bad gas and the floats stuck and I ended up having to take the bike to a dealer to get the carbs to quit dumping gas on the ground. I am pretty sure my floats are set a little high now because when I changed plugs the other day they were dark and a little damp. My AIS is plugged, but it doesn't backfire when I roll off the throttle.
Hotrod Posted October 19, 2009 #17 Posted October 19, 2009 Hey Ponch, you said you stopped and picked some up.Is there another source other than E-bay? Please tell what source you purchased yours from.

That may be true but isn't the maritimes 1/2 hour behind us out here in the west? EDIT: fyi ... there are 51 shops within 25 mile radius of me that supposedly carry the product.... looks like I have some phoning to do .

Not sure but I think its a can I gave him...But here is a link to help you locate a distributer..Let me know how it does for you as I do not want to recommend ANYTHING unless 100% positive reviews....so far I am at 100% http://www.bgfindashop.com/locator/index.php
SilvrT Posted October 20, 2009 #20 Posted October 20, 2009 EDIT: fyi ... there are 51 shops within 25 mile radius of me that supposedly carry the product.... looks like I have some phoning to do . Upon checking, it seems that these are shops that are authorized to perform service for BG related service contracts. It doesn not necessarilly mean that these shops carry the product line.
Ponch Posted October 20, 2009 Author #21 Posted October 20, 2009 Hey Ponch, you said you stopped and picked some up.Is there another source other than E-bay? It doesn not necessarilly mean that these shops carry the product line. Gees not even THAT.. I called 15 shops on their list and none of them ever even heard of the company let alone their product.. I thought that was very very strange and had them ask their mechanics on the shop floor about it.. One shop looked at the site URL I gave him and he said he would have a word with them tomorrow to find out why their info is pooched.. ODD and strange.. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for a Canadian supplier.. i could order 3 cans online but by the time it gets here I'll be looking at $25 a can ouch
Jerry W Posted October 20, 2009 #24 Posted October 20, 2009 We could have another meet and re-set your float levels. I'm just sayin'. I am thinking that would be good. It may be in the spring, looks like things are getting kinda' booked for the next few weeks and after that, the weather here isn't good for leaving on a bike. Maybe I can make a meet in your neck of the woods next time. I was kinda' looking at a road trip next spring to East Texas, Houston, Rockport, Leakey, El Paso, Fort Stockton, Odessa and back home. Most of the trip is pretty flexible, but I can't skip Odessa, the is probably the prettiest part of the trip.
