Zfrebird4 Posted October 19, 2009 #1 Posted October 19, 2009 My wrench has no idea how to find bug and rock protectors for the forks on my 86 VR. I've noticed some that appear to be ad ons on the second gens, but none on us first guys' bike. Any help will be appreciated! And Yep, I ride in all directions, up all the time these days! Jack Tharp Fort Collins, CO aka DePreach: for weddings, outdoor and motorcycle ones preferred! AND, NO FUNDI here; just well centered in my faith an on my 86 from Squidley! JZ
sarges46 Posted October 19, 2009 #2 Posted October 19, 2009 Get a hold of Black Owl...Russell has made up some sets for folks. Mostly I think he just uses velcro and attaches it to some vinyl and wraps it around the fork. I think thats how he does it.
Guest HdHtr Posted October 19, 2009 #3 Posted October 19, 2009 Jack: I have been running a set of Daystar rubber fork boots on my 91 for over 10 years, think closer to 14 years. What I can't remember is the application they were for. It was either a YZ 465 or a DT 400, along that line. They work good, look good on my 91. I don't have a close up picture of the boots but you can see them in the attached pic. Steve

Felt lined naugahyde with snaps. easy on..easy off. He said he'd make a set for the '83 a while ago, and I hit him up again at Cody.... we'll see if he remembers.... If not one of our newer local members 'Baseplayer' is getting into 'nauga' work, and might be talked into reproducing... with Russ's permission... more of the sets. We also talked about reproducing the between the risers 'Le Pac' accessory pouch.
StuD Posted October 19, 2009 #5 Posted October 19, 2009 I have made fork protectors out of plastic bottles/plant pots. Cut plastic into desired shape then use a SS hose clamp at the fork brace to hold the plastic protector. Comes in a variety of colors. :rotf: :canada:

They consisted of what looked like beer or pop can insulators made of dense foam rubber but longer. They came in various colors and were held in position with either a hose clamp or a nylon tye. Dick
camos Posted October 20, 2009 #7 Posted October 20, 2009 Jack: I have been running a set of Daystar rubber fork boots on my 91 for over 10 years, think closer to 14 years. For what it's worth, I have a similar set of fork boots on my VR and like the looks of them too. Had a look on the Daystar site and found these ones which might fit, haven't measured the forks to be certain though.
Black Owl Posted October 20, 2009 #8 Posted October 20, 2009 Lets see if I can respond now. I am currently making the fork socks out of leather. But can still use the nalgahyde (If I can shoot enough of them b4 the snows set in) Am in the process of redesigning the socks to stop them from creeping up the plungers. If anyone is interested in a set, shoot me a PM. Should have them done in time for the start of the new riding season. And Condor, will get a set out to you as soon as I iron out the details on the new design.
