You can be a "biker" regadless of what you ride

I was driving along Ft. Myers beach in my truck this morning doing the speed limit and this biker zoomed past me (it wasn't a passing zone) and I noticed he was decked out in his biker attire even though it was about 92 degrees and felt like 110. He had a do-rag, leather vest, tatoos, boots, etc. He was idling along blipping the throttle to let everyone know he was there. I was thinking to myself "there is a real biker". Then I looked at the bike and I didn't recognize it from the rear. So I got closer and saw the name on the seat, a KYMCO 250. That made me smile. I can just imagine the ribbing he'll receive when he rolls up to the next biker bar.

LOL ... it's all in what you wear.

I lived in Calgary, Alberta for 8 years and while there, got hooked into the "cowboy hat, boots, jeans, checked shirt" .... yep, I looked like a cowboy ... and so did all the other guys that hung out at the Longhorn Saloon or the Ranchman's clubs.... most of us never been on a horse in our life LMAO!

These days you do not even have to own a bike . I seen a lot of Cages with HD stickers plastered on the back rear window . I have asked many of them as either stopped at a red light or in the parking lot as to which model they own . Most reply , "I do not own one yet , But maybe when I get rich enough one day I will !" . You will not believe how many times I have heard this . I guess it makes you a "Somebody" just to have that sticker now on your rear window of a Cage . Go figure ...........:doh::doh:

brings to mind what I have been saying to people for years:

----------Life is a big costume party----------

When I ride my bike, I look like a biker, when I go fishing, I look like a fisherman, when I go golfing, I look like a golfer, when I go hunting, I look like a hunter, when I out working in my garden, I look like an old gardner. never been a cowboy yet, maybe someday though.:)

Life is a big costume party, enjoy it and have fun.

Can't say I really care what others think of my costumes.

A few days ago I was in Home Depot. I had ridden the scoot and it was a chilly evening, so I'm wearing chaps, leather coat, dew rag, neck bandana and my long gaunlet glove are hanging out of my pocket.

I go to check out and the girl behind the counter says "riding a motorcycle, eh?".

Nope, I reply. I just like leather............here's your sign.

I went on a boat cruse in our fair city when 1 of the crew told me the captain wanted to see me. I went to the bridge where the captain was and he started off by saying he would like to see "my group" on 1 of the cruse's. When I asked him what group he asked if I was a member of the Hells Angels who happened to be in the city recruting. I told him just because I had on a leather vest, a long beard and tattoos and an ear ring that I was a motorcycle enthusiest not a biker. My wife and I still laugh about that trip.

Well, I'm just an ole country boy. I wear the same type clothes wherever you happen to see me. Blue jeans, casual shirt(usually plaid or a t-shirt), boots. The only thing that changes is whether or not I have a helmet on. I'm just me. I quit trying to impress others about 40 years ago. I just love to ride. Some say too fast! HaHa. But I do get a kick out of seeing others trying to be what they think a "biker" should be. Me, I'm just a working Joe who uses his bike everyday as well as when he gets a little "time off". It's my main means of transportation wherever, whenever. Oh yea, you might see me wearing a rainsuit too.

i agree with crazy frog.

i wear what i wear, and the only thing that changes that is the weather.

sure i wear a leather jacket when its cold, but it really doesn't matter if i'm on the bike or in my truck.

as for the folks with the harley sticker in the back window of the cage...

i often thought the same thing about the wanna bee bikers that cant afford the bike, but could afford the sticker, or the tee shirt or the doo rag...ect... however???

the other way of looking at this wanna=bee biker, is that the more stickers he buys and doo rags he wears, the more that people are aware of bikes, and the more they might watch out for them, and the more they watch out the better for you and me to survive on the open road......... so i say.......

"let em wanna bee" and "let em watch out for me"

and yes..... i must admitt, i purchased a $350.00 tony lama cowboy boots back in 1986 while i lived in texas, and never saw a horse....damn they were cool... they are still in the back of the closet.....not for me..

there is a Venture sticker in the back window of my truck too.

All in all you have to give it to HD they have put out 1 heck of a lifestyle program. When you buy a Harley you can get all the accessories, clothes, etc...and finance that whole lifestyle into one easy monthly payment, that alot of people think is so great. Although many have never been on a bike, and when they do get their dream bike they are so scared to ride the darn thing, they scare me,usually why they never wave ,too scared to let go.Harley also will add your ins. in with your payment. What a deal :stirthepot::whistling:
