I just found out I have multiple Kidney Stones. I did the whole CT Scan and the doctor is going to do the shockwave thing and a stint you know where. Yikes. I saw the scan and the ones in my left Kidney look like they are massive. Not looking forward to this.

This brings back bad memories. I had them 3 times in 3 years and almost exactly 1 year apart. It was a pair the 3rd time. After a couple of times in the ER I found that Demerol did nothing but make me drowsy; didn't help with the pain at all. The last time I just stayed home and made loud undignified noises and threw-up. LoL Ever see a man in labor? :rotf:

Dumb question ......

I'm 48 and never had them, (knock on wood).

I've heard of them and how terrible it is to have them.

What causes them?

craigr

Craig,

Many of them are Calcium buildup, I have had 2 of them and as many put it it's the male equivalent of childbirth. Mine were no exception to anyone elses here, never been in that kind of pain before :yikes:

Drink lots of water so it flushes your kidneys out and that usually is all that I have heard to take away the likelyhood of them occuring.

We were told once that ya actually get them from being a heavy soda (pop) (coke) (whatever ya wanna call it) user, not sure if its true, my buddie up the river from me gets them often and he drinks lots of pop (whiskey and pop drinker) heard this a couple of times now from a couple different people but like I said Ive no proof yet, but I dont drink much pop at all and Ive never had them, would be interesting to know tho

I just happen to have a pamphlet given to me by my urologist the other day. There are various causes and the stones or pieces of them have to be analyzed at a lab to determine their exact cause. Here are several things it says the Dr may recommend to cut out or reduce in a diet.

Protein: Meats, eggs, cheese, etc...

Excessive intake of caffeinated beverages can be a problem. Coffee, tea, sodas although one cup (8oz) of tea or coffee has shown to be a benefit to stone suffers. (Tea is a hard one for me to limit)

Reduce your sodium intake

High oxolate intake can cause problems: Foods rich in oxolate-Chocolate, cocoa, spinach, (and other dark leafy greens) beets, strawberries, wheat germ, peanuts, pacans and soy.

Obviously only a Dr can tell which of these you need to be cautious about.

glad your feeling better now that they have passed. as brad has said it's the close's a man can come to the pain of child birth. had them one time and that was enought for me. i was on the island of guam, in the south pacific. we had shut down our air operations, was leaving the next morning to come back to houston. started sweeting, had the need to relive my self but couldn't. then the pain started and the pressure. this was around 4:00 pm, went to the ER. waited, waited and waited, could not set down, could not stand. now on guam they don't get in any hurry this was back in 1991. they have a saying in the old charrmo languge. hafa ada which means welcome, but to outsiders it means they ( natives ) only work 1/2 day. the only relife i got was walking, at the hospital ER the bath rooms were located out outside. so i was going back and forth only to "dribble". still had not passed the "rocks" yet. so finaly at 11:00pm they gave me some drugs and put me on a bed. around 3:00am i came too, the stones had passed while i was out. still made my flight home the next morning. yes it's ok for a grown man to scream and cry.

Good news just pased the second one.I hope thats all. Good luck BigFoot with your shockwave deal.Just took some more dope and going to bad. Thans for all your well wishes. Chris

Great news to see they passed so fast. 1st bout I had the stone passed in a few hours. Second bout, three days in hospital and another eight days before it passed. That was two years ago. Xrays still show two on right side and I am not looking forward to when they decide to move. Again I can sympathize with your pain.

5 times for me, in the middle of one now. Chills with no fever, intense urge to urinate, and only dribble, pain about 25 times what it was when I was in a car wreck and crushed my jaw and upper mandible. Any one want to go riding? 5 or so hydro;s and I'm ready
