Vance Posted September 26, 2007 #1 Posted September 26, 2007 After removing the tank and dogbone, I went to pull up the spark plug cap on a front spark plug. I could pull it part way up before hitting interference from above, but not far enough up to clear the plug. I didn't want to force anything and kink the wire or break the cap, so I stopped there and put it all back together. How do you get the plug wire up far enough on those front plugs to allow access to change the plugs? What's your technique?
KiteSquid Posted September 26, 2007 #2 Posted September 26, 2007 I have not remvoed the spark plugs from my bike yet so I cannot comment. I have looked in the Service Manual, and there is no special instructions for removal of the plugs, except to make sure to clean out any dirt from the head before removeing the plugs. If you dont have it yet, the Service Manual is dowloadable here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828 I am sorry that I could not supply more help.
Vance Posted September 26, 2007 Author #3 Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks. I have the service manual, and noticed nothing mentioned in there.
wizard Posted September 26, 2007 #4 Posted September 26, 2007 I just force em out, and then force em back on when the plugs are changed. I've never been kind to plug cables, and never been concerned with kinking the wire. I haven't broke one yet. Just don't pull on the cable to disconnect them from the plug, use the plastic cap to pull it off.
Sleeperhawk Posted September 26, 2007 #5 Posted September 26, 2007 When you are pulling the caps off, the front ones go straight up, then bend to the outside of the bike. The rear ones, just pull the caps straight and twist between the chrome covers. Just remember when replacing, seat the caps all the way.
Eck Posted September 26, 2007 #6 Posted September 26, 2007 I just force em out, and then force em back on when the plugs are changed. I've never been kind to plug cables, and never been concerned with kinking the wire. Makes me really wonder ... How in the world did you get your name there ...WIZARD....
Vance Posted September 26, 2007 Author #7 Posted September 26, 2007 When you are pulling the caps off, the front ones go straight up, then bend to the outside of the bike. The rear ones, just pull the caps straight and twist between the chrome covers. I'll give that a try. I was afraid to force them, didn't want to hear that plastic cap crack. Thanks.
KiteSquid Posted September 26, 2007 #8 Posted September 26, 2007 On my internal combustion engines, I put some dielectric grease on the inside of the spark plug wire cap areas of the wires. This helps removal and keeps any water out. Of course i have never owned a Diesel engine:rotf:
