undertaker Posted October 7, 2009 #1 Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) First, I want to thank you all for your help. It looks like the solenoid is on the outside of the battery box on the left side. I tried to get it out but the wires are too short. I can not see it from the left side as there is steel in front of it. All I have on the left side is a fuse box with a top on it and more wires. I am at a loss.:225:The bike is a 2000 Edited October 7, 2009 by undertaker ad to it
Kregerdoodle Posted October 7, 2009 #2 Posted October 7, 2009 What year is your bike?? I am sure some folks will jump in and give you a hand!! Good luck and let us know how its going... some times its best to sit back and take a break..... frustration always makes things harder.. K
Yammer Dan Posted October 7, 2009 #3 Posted October 7, 2009 Times like this you wish you could be there. Got a Voltmeter? Check and make sure juice is getting to starter (with Button pushed) and go backwards from there.
Condor Posted October 7, 2009 #4 Posted October 7, 2009 Have you tried bypassing the starter relay?? I might be??
footsie Posted October 8, 2009 #5 Posted October 8, 2009 To access the silenoid you have to remove the left side passenger floor board. disconnect the positive terminal on the battery, unplug wiring harness from the silenoid, and take an 8 mm socket on a 1/4 drive ext. removed the bolt that hold the starter lead. You can then lift up on the silenoid and it will come of the plastic mounts of the battery box. To test starter carefully jump a wire from the positive terminal of the battery, to the starter wire you unhooked from the silenoid. If the starter and the battery, and the wire going to the starter are good, it should turn, be sure you have checked your ground connection. If it still won't turn, one of these has to be the problem. ( OR the engine is locked up one)
ctraylor Posted October 8, 2009 #6 Posted October 8, 2009 I found that mine turns over easy. Just lean a little to the right and raise foot. Sorry couldn't resist
eusa1 Posted October 8, 2009 #7 Posted October 8, 2009 give us some more info......we can fix most anything with enough info???
Yammer Dan Posted October 8, 2009 #8 Posted October 8, 2009 give us some more info......we can fix most anything with enough info??? What you mean "ALMOST":duck: :rotfl:
CTrider Posted October 8, 2009 #9 Posted October 8, 2009 talk to these people. If they cant fix it, it ain't broke! Ha Let us know how your doing? CT-rider from IA. CTrider here.
V7Goose Posted October 8, 2009 #10 Posted October 8, 2009 You need to back up and tell us what you have done so far. Probably the most important first check is for you turn the key on and verify that the neutral light is on, then push the starter button and tell us if BOTH the oil and temp lights come on when the starter button is down. Goose
BuddyRich Posted October 8, 2009 #11 Posted October 8, 2009 Yea, You'd be surprised how many people forgot to put the kill switch back to Run. Like Goose said, basics first, so we can help troubleshoot it.
dmoff1698 Posted October 8, 2009 #12 Posted October 8, 2009 First, I want to thank you all for your help. It looks like the solenoid is on the outside of the battery box on the left side. I am at a loss.:225:The bike is a 2000 When my relay on my 99 went KAPUT, I had the same problem getting to it. Ended up having to remove the battery and the battery box (2 bolts) to get enough room to work in. You will need to have the side cover off too so you can work the relay off the battery box as you lift it out. Getting the relay back on the battery box when you go back together takes some patience too. Then again.....with those short wires, where's it going to go? Hope you find your problem soon!!
flb_78 Posted October 8, 2009 #13 Posted October 8, 2009 How did you determine the key switch isn't bad?
GeorgeS Posted October 8, 2009 #14 Posted October 8, 2009 How did you determine the key switch isn't bad? Follow the cable " from " the switch, to a Plug. Open the plug, and use ohm meter to read accross the two wires that go to the " ON-OFF " connections inside the switch assembly. From what I have read, if its bad you need to replace the switch. However I do recall at least one fellow said he successfull disassemble the switch and repaired the contacts. But best to order a new switch if you suspect its bad. Also, some folks have installed a hidden bypass switch
CTrider Posted October 13, 2009 #15 Posted October 13, 2009 did you run through these checklist items?
V7Goose Posted October 13, 2009 #16 Posted October 13, 2009 Despite many of us here jumping in to try and help this trial member when he asked, he seems to have lost interest in us. He never even saw fit to respond to any of our suggestions. He doesn't ride his bike, and I suspect he won't be back. Goose
Steve S Posted October 13, 2009 #17 Posted October 13, 2009 Sigh,, His loss, not ours. But it's a sad waste of a dang good motorcycle.
eusa1 Posted October 13, 2009 #18 Posted October 13, 2009 who do you call when the {undertaker} passes away?? that was his user name wasn't it??
wes0778 Posted October 13, 2009 #19 Posted October 13, 2009 I found that mine turns over easy. Just lean a little to the right and raise foot. Sorry couldn't resist :sign yeah that:You beat me to it. (I don't have to lean, I just have to pull up behind DragonRider and it turns right over. ) Maybe he tried your method and is stuck under the bike
DragonRider Posted October 13, 2009 #20 Posted October 13, 2009 Are you saying that I had something to do with that...................:rotfl::rotfl:I was the first one there to help get it back upright............ (I don't have to lean, I just have to pull up behind DragonRider and it turns right over. )
clawed Posted October 14, 2009 #21 Posted October 14, 2009 I thinks the undertaker may be embarrassed;) one flip of the ol' kill switch took care of it!
Sailor Posted October 14, 2009 #22 Posted October 14, 2009 Could also be kick stand switch. Start with the simple things first.
Jerry W Posted October 14, 2009 #23 Posted October 14, 2009 Hope it was something really simple and he is just feeling a little stupid, but is riding to make himself feel better.
