So I have noticed a drop of oil under the bike since I got it. Today I changed the oil and filter and was checking things out closely and found that it is dripping from a tube that runs under the engine. A metal cross tube on the frame that has 2 flat bars with holes in them. Right behind that on the bottom of the engine there are some rubber tubes and the oil is dripping from one of them. I can not get a good enough look above that. I think the smell I am smelling is from oil getting on something hot. Anyone out there know where I'm talking about? I will try and get a picture of the area today and post it. There is only a drop or 2 after sitting a few days after a ride. But I think it maybe causing the smell I have. You can see the oil drip.

If you are talking about the bundle of hoses that hang down under the frame in front of the rear wheel... I believe those are all vent hoses. Fuel tank vent, crankcase vent, etc. It's normal for them to be damp and maybe even drip every now and then, especially if you just filled up on a hot day and parked in the sun. Oil or gas vapor will condense and eventually there will be a drip.

If you just changed oil chances are you overfilled it and it WILL leak out the tubes. My bike does not leak IF I keep it not quite to the half way mark. IF It is at the half way mark IT WILL LEAK ON MY BIKE.

That is exactly what I was going to say. If I fill my crankcase above the 1/2 mark on the sight gauge it will throw oil on my rear white wall tire. And I don't like that! I hate to clean white walls but I love the look.

:sign yeah that:I agree with all that been said so far. Above the half way mark on the glass and I get a drip about every day. My problem is I dont understand how I can drain the warm oil out, take the old filter off, wait about ten minutes, stand the bike up so I'm sure I got all the oil, then put in three quarts of oil and the filter, and the oil on the glass is up to the top! It's like it doesn't drain out completely.

Two of those vent hoses connect to the air plenum drains (just above and behind the carbs for #1 and #3). Getting an occasional drip from the left drain is absolutely normal, especially on bikes with many miles and significant highway running (long times at high RPM). This comes from some of the oil mist that condenses on the inside of the air plenums over time,a nd it only tends to drip from the left one because that is the lowest point while the bike sits on the side stand. This is also why the left rear carb is always gunky with old dirty oil that has seeped out over from the rubber hose connecting the plenum to the top of the carb. And as others have already said above, over filling the engine WILL absolutely cause much more oil to be blown up there from the crankcase vent, and that will continue to slowly drain out those vent hoses over time, even after you have put the engine oil level back to normal. Part of the reason that those hoses never seem to completely dry up once you have overfilled the engine is that they both have check valves in them.
