FreezyRider Posted October 5, 2009 #1 Posted October 5, 2009 Under the right side cover (the one above the passenger floorboard) there are 2 relays. The larger one is black and is the flasher relay. The other is blue. Does anyone know what this relay is for? Just noticed today that mine makes a buzzing sound when the key is on and the bike is in gear. Put it in neutral and the buzzing stops. Wondering if this is normal or if the relay is going south for the winter.
V7Goose Posted October 5, 2009 #2 Posted October 5, 2009 That is the relay that activates the carb heaters. No, it shouldn't make any noise except one click when you put it into gear. Goose
Sylvester Posted October 5, 2009 #3 Posted October 5, 2009 Just pull the fuse behind the right lower fairing and forget it. Unless you live in Denver, CO or higher elevations you don't need the carb heaters. I put a switch in mine and the heaters have been off for two years.
LilBeaver Posted October 5, 2009 #4 Posted October 5, 2009 That is good to know that is what that is for, I was wondering that myself (no noise from mine but I was curious).
gunboat Posted October 6, 2009 #5 Posted October 6, 2009 i just pulled the wire plug off each heater. don c.

Ahhh and THIS is what we were reading about in earlier posts about switching off to gain additional amps / watts / fun stuff for heated gear on your bike? All I know about electricity is that it follows the law of "Smoke".. that's as far as my electrical knowledge goes..

Seaking Posted October 6, 2009 #8 Posted October 6, 2009 I know someone will ask what the "Law Of Smoke" is about electricity and electronics so I'll explain. "The amount of smoke allowed to escape from an electrical or electronic device is proportional to the amount of money spent trying to put that smoke back into that device" In other words, if you screw something up and you see a poof of blue smoke coming out of a device, the amount of smoke that came out of the device will dictate how much it will cost to get that smoke back into the device to make it work again.. As long as the smoke stays IN the device, it should work OK.. but as soon as you let it escape, it won't work properly or work at all..
gunboat Posted October 6, 2009 #9 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) man the law of smoke is very costly in the aircraft world, don't ask me how i know. especialy if your on a island in the south pacific. don c. Edited October 6, 2009 by gunboat

If you loose to much smoke is there someplace you can by replacement smoke:think::rotfl:
