Buzzing in my ears

Under the right side cover (the one above the passenger floorboard) there are 2 relays. The larger one is black and is the flasher relay. The other is blue. Does anyone know what this relay is for? Just noticed today that mine makes a buzzing sound when the key is on and the bike is in gear. Put it in neutral and the buzzing stops.

Wondering if this is normal or if the relay is going south for the winter.

That is the relay that activates the carb heaters. No, it shouldn't make any noise except one click when you put it into gear.

Just pull the fuse behind the right lower fairing and forget it. Unless you live in Denver, CO or higher elevations you don't need the carb heaters. I put a switch in mine and the heaters have been off for two years.

That is good to know that is what that is for, I was wondering that myself (no noise from mine but I was curious).

Ahhh and THIS is what we were reading about in earlier posts about switching off to gain additional amps / watts / fun stuff for heated gear on your bike?

I know someone will ask what the "Law Of Smoke" is about electricity and electronics so I'll explain.

 

"The amount of smoke allowed to escape from an electrical or electronic device is proportional to the amount of money spent trying to put that smoke back into that device"

 

In other words, if you screw something up and you see a poof of blue smoke coming out of a device, the amount of smoke that came out of the device will dictate how much it will cost to get that smoke back into the device to make it work again.. As long as the smoke stays IN the device, it should work OK.. but as soon as you let it escape, it won't work properly or work at all..

Thought they had a no smoking policy on all Aircraft, maybe they still allow it in the South Pacific.
