Burninator Posted September 25, 2007 #1 Posted September 25, 2007 I have had my 86 Venture Royale checked over by the dealer and no safety problems have been found but the icon on my display indicating low brake fluid is either on solid or flashing most of the time. Is it really caused by low brake fluid? If so, how much fluid should I have in the reservoir? Perhaps there is a level sensor problem. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? If so how did you resolve the problem. The light is quite annoying at night.
sarges46 Posted September 25, 2007 #2 Posted September 25, 2007 Not trying to be smart butt.....but are ya sure its the brake warning light? Second, yes the light will come on with low fluid I believe...on my old bike way back when the light came on when the brake pads got thin as well. The level should be just below the top of the cap...gives room to expand a little. Also remember there are two masters..
mother Posted September 25, 2007 #3 Posted September 25, 2007 my brake fluid indicator light came on a few weeks ago and it is for the linked brake fluid resevoir. the owners manuel says it is for the front brake fluid level, but it is actually for the rear brake pedal. it is the resevoir that is on the right side, below the seat and behind the right side cover. i put some brake fluid in a syringe and topped it up, indicator light has gone out. hope this helps. cheers, Scott:detective:

Burninator Posted September 26, 2007 Author #5 Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. The pads were checked by the dealer and were in good shape. Perhaps they didn't check the reservoir below the seat. I will take a look at it. The level there may not have been checked and may be low. I will let you know what I find.

The reason the light may come on when the brake pads get worn is because the level in the reservoir will go down from when it was full enough and the pads were not worn. Worn pads in themselve do not have an indicator to trigger the light. RandyA
muffinman Posted September 27, 2007 #7 Posted September 27, 2007 If the fluid level is not low in either reservior you will need to resolder the circuit board in the cluster.I had the same problem and that was the fix on my 83 Jeff
