Freebird Posted September 28, 2009 #1 Posted September 28, 2009 Do any of you happen to have the Yamaha cordura nylon tank bag? The one that sits on top of the trunk rack? I ran across one on Craigslist and bought it. I like it but when I read the description of them online, they say "comes with rain cover". This one did not have the rain cover I don't think. What does it consist of?
gunboat Posted September 28, 2009 #2 Posted September 28, 2009 hi don i think it looked something like a large shower cap that covered the entire bag. and the elistic would snug it under the whole bag. that remindes me i need to go and try to and find mine. don c.

What does it consist of? The rain covers look like a tightly woven nylon fabric, usually elastic banded to fit around the bag.. you would USUALLY find it stuffed in a panel inside of the pockets of the bag.. I found one of those bags online but the company doesn't ship to Canada.. must be another one of those silly homeland security rules. scary canucks to the north.. oooooh... Do you find the bag will be practical? I usually strap a medium sized red waterproof duffle bag type thing on there..
BOO Posted September 29, 2009 #4 Posted September 29, 2009 Do any of you happen to have the Yamaha cordura nylon tank bag? The one that sits on top of the trunk rack? I ran across one on Craigslist and bought it. I like it but when I read the description of them online, they say "comes with rain cover". This one did not have the rain cover I don't think. What does it consist of? I bought one of those down at Litchfield Honda/Yamaha open house last spring. Limited colors, Red but just my color. $20.00 and it works great, came with a cover. I thought I would use it but so far I have not. Wife just ships UPS when we go somewhere. But for the price I could not pass it up. I doubt that I would ever use the rain cover anyway, the bag itself is water repellent, whatever that means. BOO
Freebird Posted September 29, 2009 Author #5 Posted September 29, 2009 I think it will be practical. It's about the same size as an old nylon bag that I have used for several years and is getting a bit worn. It's supposed to be water repellent but I would have liked to have gotten the rain cover with it just to be sure. I think the Yamaha one only comes in black and it has the star logo embroidered on the back of it. It looks like a pretty well made bag. I doubt that I would have bought one at the price that Yamaha asks for them but this one was a good deal. Maybe I can find or make a rain cover for it. Heck....I haven't looked in all the pockets but I did ask the guy if he had the rain cover and he said that he didn't get one with it.
Steve S Posted September 29, 2009 #6 Posted September 29, 2009 We have and use the bag quite often. The rain cover is a nylon cover with elastic around the edges to keep it fitting snugly. The only problem with the cover is that it is NOT waterproof. In a real hard rain the clothes inside will get wet. I usually put a garbage bag over mine and then use a bunge net to secure the bag to the rack. Even though the bag has velcro strips to hold it on, I have had it to almost fall off going down the road. Now I just put the bunge net over it when I leave out. Hope this helps.
Sleeperhawk Posted September 29, 2009 #7 Posted September 29, 2009 We use that rack bag all the time, and Bobbie can pack a lot of stuff into that bag. Yes, the bag comes with a rain cover as someone stated, stuffed inside one of the pockets.

Don's right. It is just a big rain bonnet that fits over the entire bag. Mine stays stored in the small center pocket on the front (riders side) of the bag. The bag works great. Dennis
Ponch Posted September 29, 2009 #9 Posted September 29, 2009 Mine stays on the trunk all the time. I keep our rain gear in it (because water weeps past the cover). I had the cover on it on the way to maintenance day as it rained most of the way and the wind ripped it at the seams. When it ripped, I used a cargo net bungee over it and that worked fine. I had it sewed up when I got home. Now I don't use the cover. The biggest complaint I have is that you have to attach it backwards to make the velcro straps work. I mount it in the designed direction, but use additional velcro to attach the carry handle to the front trunk rack rail.

What does it consist of? I got the Besteem one about a year ago. I have used it once, works great. It has a "rain" cover, while the bag is already designed to keep water out, the cover is not much help. I think some one mentioned a plastic bag and bungee net, this would be my recommendation as well.
ridgway1 Posted September 29, 2009 #11 Posted September 29, 2009 Hey Don, The discription its like a shower cap is pretty accurate. I liked :scared:mine until the shower cap blew off this spring at about 85 mph on the Pa turnpike.
Seaking Posted September 29, 2009 #12 Posted September 29, 2009 if you go into some major camping store they sell oem rain bags that really works well.. I got one here, they come in various sizes and it works really well.. I currently use it to store my sheepskin in if we get caught in the rain and I don't want to sit on a wet sheep..
Squidley Posted September 29, 2009 #13 Posted September 29, 2009 Don, I know the Kuryakyn bags have a small zippered area between the 2 small compartments on the front of the main bag. This is where the rain cover is on those style bags, does yours have that?
