My windshield is a problem.

I love my Venture......everything but the high windshield. I am looking for advice from anyone who has cut their windshield down, and the results that are obtained. The windshield is simply too high in my opinion, and although I do not ride in the rain, I do get caught in the rain until I can find a bridge or store or whatever and get out of it, and rain on that windshield is bad news, it is called instant danger. It is too tall to look over it, so you have to look to one side. Also it seems to block the airflow and in the summer in South Carolina, 99 degrees up to 105 degrees, it is hot behind that windshield, let me tell you.

I have already decided to cut it down, but was hoping for advice from someone who has done this and knows the result. How does it effect helmet buffeting, what happens when the big semi goes by, all that stuff, I already know as high as it poses a life threatening situation if one is caught in the rain and tries to get somewhere......so the windshield has got to go down some.

So anyone been through this? Is it the wrong thing to do? Does it unbalance the front end? Just might be the folks who designed it like this did so for a reason?

Yamaha has a shorter windshield part number STR-4XY02-50-00. i PUT ONE ON FOR AROUND TOWN AND i CAN LOOK OVER IT ALSO CLEARVIEW ALSO MAKES A SHORTER SHIELD.

I put the shorter shield on mine also, a it more wind buffeting but really not bad, the wife noticed a bit more head buffeting also but is not bad. It is much better if you get caught in the rain, which is pretty common here in Florida. I elected to buy the shorter one so I could save the tall and put it on for winter riding. I have seen an article on cutting down the windshield, I will see if I can find it.

I have a showchrome windshield and love it. When it raine I can either opt to duck behind it or look over it. Depends how much hail.

I am 5'7" - and took 6" off the stock windshield,,,,love it, not much more

wind buffeting and wife hasn't complained.

 

I am still going to cut it down another 2", so I can completely look over it.

Right now I have to sit up completely and uncomfortably straight to see over it, which is fine for a few minutes but not more.

 

I took it to NGM Glass here in North Bay Ontario, they charged $50 to cut it down and did a professional job. I wasn't about to tackle that myself.

I keep mine cleaned and waxed with spray polish when at home and with Endust wipes on the road. Not to much of an issue, the water beads and runs off pretty good. I plan on switching to a Clearview with a vent when I can afford it. I understand they have more of an angle that help the water run off even better, and reduces wind buffeting.
