Art708 Posted September 25, 2009 #1 Posted September 25, 2009 Should I pay the local Harley dealer 75 bucks for a new set of R/K takeoff mufflers? I don't know if the difference in sound would justify the price of the muffs. Art
SilvrT Posted September 25, 2009 #2 Posted September 25, 2009 recent takeoffs might have the catalytic convertor and this has to be dealt with differently. do a search for related posts as for the price, that's about $25 more than what a person should pay but IMHO, that's still cheap considering what other mufflers will cost. You can also drill out the baffles to get more sound and BARK out of them.
mini-muffin Posted September 25, 2009 #3 Posted September 25, 2009 Hey Art, sorry for interrupting your thread. Are you coming to chat tonight? I got the pics you wanted. Oh go ahead and get them if you can afford it. Unless you find them elsewhere cheaper. Did that help? Margaret

Gonna go to "bike night" and might take a ride after.
slick97spirit Posted September 25, 2009 #5 Posted September 25, 2009 Art, I can tell you that my RK's did not satisfy me as far as sound goes until I drilled out the baffles on both ends. I like them now. They sound great when you romp on it, but aren't too loud when just cruising. $75 seems a little steep to me tho. I think you can get em for alot less on ebay.

Art708 Posted September 25, 2009 Author #7 Posted September 25, 2009 I have a set that are drilled out but they sound too harsh. I think I'll save up for a set of Khromewerks.... I like the sound of those.
Renne Posted September 25, 2009 #8 Posted September 25, 2009 Art, I paid $15 for a set at one dealership and $20 at another for a friend...drilled them out and we both really like the sound. I think the HD folks are catching on, I tried to score another set and the parts mgr. wanted more information as to what I was doing with them......Might be all of a sudden "they' have discovered a market,,,,we should be more discrete! Renne
KiteSquid Posted September 25, 2009 #9 Posted September 25, 2009 Ask the HD riders you ride with ESPECIALLY the ones with loud pipes!!!!!!! I asked some of the members of the local American Legion Riders and I was given two sets of take-offs for free.
Renne Posted September 25, 2009 #10 Posted September 25, 2009 There ya go! Another example of being super "creative"! Ask and ye shall receive! Renne
Yammer Dan Posted September 26, 2009 #11 Posted September 26, 2009 I think i paid 12 bucks & shipping for mine. Look like new. Still in parts room. Jardines sounding Tooo GOOD!!
Art708 Posted September 26, 2009 Author #12 Posted September 26, 2009 Yeah... I thought they wanted too much for them from what I've read here on the forum. I'll pass on them and save my nickles up for something else.
Little Bob Posted September 26, 2009 #13 Posted September 26, 2009 I have a set of stock R/K pipes for sale anyone need a set? $25 plus shipping. Off 2000 Road king good shape.
