MasterGuns Posted September 24, 2009 #1 Posted September 24, 2009 I am really serious about purchasing a full set of heated riding gear; jacket, pants, gloves and socks. I have reviewed several brands; some ridiculously costly and some reasonably priced. So, what sort of advise can members provide in terms of what they have and how they rate their gear. I am leaning towards "Warm Gear" sold by Cozy Winters. As far as what I've read, this "Warm Gear" is specially manufactured for motorcycles. Ok, let me have it.
awsmsrv Posted September 24, 2009 #2 Posted September 24, 2009 When I did my research, I decided on Warm n' Safe. Now I only got the gloves (love 'em) because I have Cycleport (Motoport) pants and jacket made of kevlar mesh with waterproof and thermal liners which is good enough for the weather around Seattle.
Sylvester Posted September 24, 2009 #3 Posted September 24, 2009 Unless you plan on riding in the Northwest Territory or Alaska in the winter, you only need the gloves and jacket if you ride a Venture. Your core temp. will heat the rest of you. With your feet inside the fairing the engine will heat them. I have Gerbing gloves and Tour Master jacket. Buy what you like, they pretty much all do the job, and remember you can always add more later.
RedRider Posted September 24, 2009 #4 Posted September 24, 2009 +1 on Warm and Safe. Get the Heat-Troller with it so you can adjust the temp. They get warm. Gloves and jacket liner are all that are needed. You legs and feet stay warm just with standard covering (lined riding pants, wool socks). The only thing below the waist that gets cold is your knees if you don't have wind deflectors. I doubled up the armor in the knees of my lined riding pants and they were fine. Riden in below freezing weather with this setup and was relatively comfortable. The snow wasn't so good, but I was warm. RR
loehring Posted September 24, 2009 #5 Posted September 24, 2009 Here's what I have. 2 years and running. I ride 365 so they get a lot of use and I am very happy with the product. When they eventually need replacing I won't hesitate to buy the same. http://cozywinters.com/heated-clothing/
SaltyDawg Posted September 24, 2009 #6 Posted September 24, 2009 First off you need to concern yourself with how many amps whatever you chose will require and make sure the charging system can handle it. I bought the warm gear gloves from Cozy Winters as well as the heated socks. Both are great as long as you get heattrollers. I will advise you to purchase separate heattrollers for each piece of equipment. I bought the dual and although it works good on cold days it "Shares" the wattage draw. So with both turned up all the way you only get half on each. Sucks on those really cold days. Got to turn one down and the other up and switch back and forth. Not this winter, getting me another single. I highly recommend getting a set of 1000 denier fleece lined chaps from http://www.coloradochaps.com/motorcycle_chaps.html it was by far the best investment in warmth I have made. I used to wear a set of Arctiva bib and jacket and now they both sit in the closet. If you get the chaps pay the extra and get the knee/shin guards. They will keep the material off of you knees and you will stay very warm. In fact this past Winter I rode 50 miles in 12 degrees and when I got to work and took the chaps off my legs actually felt warm to the touch. I could never make that claim with the Arctiva suit. Don't let anyone fool you, that engine will only keep your feet warm for so long. I ride 50 miles to work and without the heated socks in temps below 35 my feet are chunks of ice within 30 minutes. And I have the Yamaha deflectors on. BTW with the Fleece lined chaps and a leather jacket with liner all I need are the heated gloves and socks. I do wear a Scampa Pharoh Balaclava, http://www.solomotoparts.com/product.php?productid=20176 but that is with a 1/2 or 3/4 helmet. I have a full faced modular this year so I don't know if I will need it. It's is the most comfortable balaclava I have ever worn.
KiteSquid Posted September 24, 2009 #7 Posted September 24, 2009 As an altenrative to purchasing cloting, somewhere on this site there are instructions on how to convert some of your clothing to electric.... I won't be using it 365 because I live and work in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and 90% of the cagers drive like idiots. If I rode everyday, I simply wouldn't last long. Everyday there is at least one biker accident, most days more than one. But it does get cold and I indend to use this heated gear a lot. Thanks for the reply.
