Monty Posted September 23, 2009 #1 Posted September 23, 2009 Well, my youngest arrived at Ft. Sill yesterday, to start his basic training. That's the same place I went for my basic and AIT. At least it should be cooling off there a little bit. Bet he's lovin' life by now....lol:scared:
LilBeaver Posted September 23, 2009 #2 Posted September 23, 2009 Congrats! That is definitely something to be proud of! Thank you and your son for your service and future service to this country. I know that I feel personally feel forever in debt to those that have and continue to serve our country.

Yammer Dan Posted September 23, 2009 #5 Posted September 23, 2009 Thank him for us. About now he is thinking "What in the World was I thinking???":rotfl:
Monty Posted September 23, 2009 Author #6 Posted September 23, 2009 Thanks everyone. I'm sure he's second guessing by now too. I think we all did. I know he didn't get much sleep last night, seeing as they didn't even get to Ft. Sill until around midnight. He probably got about 3 hours, and then they come in banging on a trash can to wake you up....lol My other son is leaving for basic soon also. He would have went with his younger brother, but they had to approve his tattoos, so it held him up a few weeks. He is down at the Memphis MEPS right now, swearing in.
Kregerdoodle Posted September 23, 2009 #7 Posted September 23, 2009 Congrats!! Please Thanks them both for thier Service!!!
mini-muffin Posted September 23, 2009 #8 Posted September 23, 2009 Wow got both boys out of the house. Do you have any more kids or are you folks gonna be empty nesters now? Pretty cool having both boys go in to the service. Congrats must have done something right. Margaret
Squidley Posted September 23, 2009 #9 Posted September 23, 2009 A heartfelt thank you to both of them and to you for serving Semper Fi
Monty Posted September 23, 2009 Author #10 Posted September 23, 2009 Wow got both boys out of the house. Do you have any more kids or are you folks gonna be empty nesters now? Pretty cool having both boys go in to the service. Congrats must have done something right. Margaret We had both of them out of the house for a while, then one quit college, and one got divorced. Needless to say, they both moved back in. They both got $15,000 bonuses and will get a paycheck now, so I already told them they need to find their own places after basic and AIT. They will get done sometime early next year, and then be back in town.(Army National Guard).
Kirby Posted September 24, 2009 #11 Posted September 24, 2009 Fort Sill, Oklahoma, now that brings back some memories!!!! In 1983 I spent 13 weeks in the "Old WWII barracks" from Febuary to May. I pushed half of Oklahoma into Texas there. The wind in Tornado Alley blew that same half right back. Miserable time!! I wish all of our 18 year olds could experience a similiar time of growing into manhood and womanhood. As bad as it was I think( I know) it made me a better person. Tell them to take whatever the DI's tell them to do, to suck it up and truck on!!! Good luck and THANKS!!!

Monty Posted November 19, 2009 Author #16 Posted November 19, 2009 Well, we are empty nesters again. Oldest son arrived at Ft. Sill this week, so they are both there now. Youngest graduates December 4th. We're going out to Oklahoma to see him graduate, and spend some time with him. I'll bet he's ready for a big steak dinner and some DQ...lol
Squidley Posted November 19, 2009 #17 Posted November 19, 2009 All the best to both of your boys Monty, we are very proud of their service to the country
Gray Ghost Posted November 20, 2009 #18 Posted November 20, 2009 He is going to Ft. Sill too. Gun Bunnies! Hope all goes well with them at Sill. I know you are proud of them. Your relationship with them will be alot different from now on. Thanks for your families service.
Monty Posted November 20, 2009 Author #19 Posted November 20, 2009 They won't be gun bunnies. I was, and did my basic and AIT there. They are just there for basic, then off to Ft. Leonard Wood for AIT. Both are Combat Engineers.
Gray Ghost Posted November 21, 2009 #20 Posted November 21, 2009 I did my first tour in Combat Engineers. The one thing I learned is Engineers don't mix well with others. And my apologies for getting their branch wrong. Sappers are a proud lot for good reason.
