I believe I want to remove the tank badges and whiskers from the fairing.

I have already removed the sticker from the tank and the 'Yamaha' from the trunk. For those I used WD-40 to get the glue off, then used wax to clean up the mess that the WD-40 just smeared around.

First off, are the tank badges just double sided taped on? Or, am I going to have to fill holes like in the old days?

Secondly, is there something out there better for getting the glue off than WD-40, that won't hurt the paint? WD-40 and wax does do it, but it takes alot of elbow grease too.

And lastly, is there and easy was of getting these chrome items off without damaging them? - Just in case I want to put them back on at a later date.

I haven't personally done it but I have been told that you can use grease and wax remover to get the snot off. You can purchase it from any automotive paint supplier and I am sure it won't hurt the paint.

Just reread your 1st line, the tank badges are easy to pull off, the eyebrows or "Whiskers" are not so easy. The chrome piece will come off the tape, but the tape sticks like nothing you have ever seen. It took me 3 days to get the residue off the fairing, so be paitent and use the WD40

I pulled my tank badges off using the fishing line idea, then I used a product called "GOO-GONE" which I get at my local Ace Hardware store. It still requires elbow grease but it does not hurt the paint. I did a search online and it appears you can even get the product at Walgreens. Here is the link so you can get an idea on the product....

After looking at a recent photo of my blue/black bike out in the sun, I am having 2nd thoughts about removing the tank badges.

It might look too 'bare' without them.

So I am going to hold off on the badges until I see a bike like our without them.

Is there anyone out there that is interested in getting rid of their whiskers from the fairing?

I have an idea I would like to try but it may involve the destruction of the whiskers.

So does anyone have a set they want to get rid of? :yikes:

Send me the who, what, where, and when info, and I will contact you back.

Thanks much!

i removed the whiskers by using a plastic scraper that is beveled on the end. then i used some isopropyl rubbing alcohol 70% to soften up the double sided tape. continued using the plastic scraper to remove most of the tape. i tried some

"gunk liquid wrench" but that didn't work real good. so i tried some lighter fluid it contains ( napha ) that did the job of getting the rest of the tape residue off. this combo worked for me.

The RSV that I just bought already had the badges removed when I got it. At first I didn't like it but now its grown on me.

Plus it's good fun to have people walk up and say "wow, that's the quietest Harley I've ever seen":rotfl:

Mine's not black/blue but here's a pic of it.

Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!

I like that nice clean uncluttered look.

Judging from the Harley showrooms and all the accessories, I couldn't get away from having to have the logos all over my bike if it was a Harley. I like a lot of their over prices accessories but wouldn't want them on my bike simply cause everything has a Harley emblem on it. Talk about going overboard!

Okay, I've heard this expression MANY times.

What movie did it come from?

I think I have seen the movie, but don't remember which one.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Badges?... We don't need no... stinkin' badges!" is one of the most frequently quoted, misquoted, and parodied movie quotations in history. In 2005, it was chosen as #36 on the [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Film_Institute]American Film Institute[/ame] list, AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes.

The original quotation comes from the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre with [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humphrey_Bogart]Humphrey Bogart[/ame]. In one of the scenes in the movie a Mexican bandit leader (Gold Hat played by [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfonso_Bedoya]Alfonso Bedoya[/ame]) is trying to convince Fred C Dobbs (played by Bogart) and company that they are the [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federales]Federales[/ame].

Dobbs: 'If you're the police where are your [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badge]badges[/ame]?'Gold Hat: 'Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!'[1] This in turn was adapted from [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_Traven]B Traven[/ame]'s 1927 [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Treasure_of_the_Sierra_Madre]novel[/ame] upon which the movie was based:

"All right," Curtin shouted back. "If you are the police, where are your badges? Let's see them." "Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_profanity]ching' tu madre[/ame]! Come out from that ****-hole of yours. I have to speak to you."

Yep, love the clean look! Took mine off... Used Goo-Gone but removing all the residue was a pain! I found that using a hair blow dryer helps a lot. Just ran an extension chord and heated up the adhesive residue and scraped it off. Then just used a micro fiber cloth and the goo-gone to get rid of what was left.
