There's no reason for a dealer to try to discredit you. They get paid for doing warranty work, just like non-warranty. Sometimes it's it's just the arrogant personality of the shop foreman.

I'm glad you found someone with enough sense to look at it.

I was wondering what the "issue" was with the hot tank and cap.. venting.. how about that..

But to throw light onto the warranty work and dealers there is a major issue why they don't want to do some of the warranty work and give you such a hard time with it..

While in REAL world time it might take them 6 man hours to do the job, because they don't see a lot of RSV and have a lot of experience on them, the warranty lists the work at only 3.5 manhours of labour, so it doesn't behoove them to loose money doing warranty work..

Go figure when I had that fuel pump issue.. that first shop did a lot of warranty work that didn't cost ME any money but it was costing them.. I'm sure Yamaha didn't reimburse them what it really cost.. while at the second shop, they quickly found the issue and got it fixed super fast.. one shop lost money while the other prolly made a coupla bucks out of the process..

In my mind, convoluted as it is, this is what the main issue is all about why you get the grumptity grumps from some dealerships..

Good bit of info .... with this in mind I guess it would be a good idea to query the shop if they have techs experienced on the RSV before giving them any business. Just because it says "Yamaha" on their door doesn't necessarilly mean they can work on ALL Yamaha product lines.

When I had my '85 I found the best Yamaha Venture mechanic working at a Suzuki dealership. Of course, warranty did not come into play with it.

Here's a hint, and it's no bad smack on any dealership but if they have a tons of ATVs and few motorcycles on the floor, the odds are that they aren't too familiar with ALL the Yamaha line of vehicles, let a lone the powerful and sexy RSV ; )

 Ah Man, Now we won't be able to call you FireBall..... :rotf:

Where did you wind up taking it? I got mine from Folsom Yamaha. Don't even know if they are still there. And the tank was warm on those hot Valley Days. But then again everything is warm at 110.
