Big Buck Posted September 20, 2009 #1 Posted September 20, 2009 after reading some of the threads about the shocks I bought a gauge/pump and put air in shocks. 260 mile trip for lunch and icecream yesterday and what a differance putting air in the shocks made. No more jarring of the back everytime I hit a bump. I love this site.
smoking gun Posted July 9, 2011 #2 Posted July 9, 2011 What type of pressure are you running in both front and rear? im going on a 250 mi ride sunday with luggage and the wife?

XV1100SE Posted July 10, 2011 #4 Posted July 10, 2011 For me (me 195lbs, girlfriend 120lbs, additional safety chrome and luggage - approx 330lbs total) I figured with maximum carrying capacity of the bike and the range you can put in the rear shock... I run 40psi in the rear and 0psi in the front. Not sure what the difference would be if I add pressure to the front. I have a proper pump (zero loss). Can someone comment on what adding pressure to the front does?
dingy Posted July 10, 2011 #5 Posted July 10, 2011 Can someone comment on what adding pressure to the front does? On my 1st gen prior to putting progressives in it raised front end at least an inch. Also made it ride firmer. Doesn't move at all when air goes in with progressives though, but I still keep about 7 lbs in it. Gary
davecb Posted July 11, 2011 #6 Posted July 11, 2011 Putting air in the front shocks will stop it from diving if you have to hit the brakes hard. I run 2 lbs in mine. I tried 4, but , to me, it made the front a little stiff when you hit bumps....
FEW Posted March 19, 2014 #7 Posted March 19, 2014 So if I'm going to eliminate the onboard compressor all together and install progressive springs in the front. How do I go about putting air in the shocks. Sorry, sometimes I just can't picture it.
bongobobny Posted March 19, 2014 #8 Posted March 19, 2014 You just put schraeder connectors on the air line for the front shocks, and for the rear shock...
Bert2006 Posted May 12, 2014 #10 Posted May 12, 2014 Shocks = 40 psi in rear and 2 psi in front Tires = 36 psi in front and 40 to 42 psi in rear
FEW Posted May 12, 2014 #11 Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks Bert2006, but I'm trying to find a place/link for the schrader conversions so I can put them on the shock air lines. I've been researching all day, and can't seem to come up with anything.
billmac Posted May 12, 2014 #12 Posted May 12, 2014 I put 3 pounds in the front about 22 in the back. don't really load up the rear with much so it works for me. I do have a 07 RSTD.
Bert2006 Posted May 12, 2014 #13 Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks Bert2006, but I'm trying to find a place/link for the schrader conversions so I can put them on the shock air lines. I've been researching all day, and can't seem to come up with anything. Sorry bud, also numbers I gave earlier are for a second gen. For schrader valves try doing a quick search on ebay and tons of options come up.
FEW Posted May 14, 2014 #14 Posted May 14, 2014 After reviewing most of the posts on this issue I decided to take the time to resolder the entire circuit card. I did attempt to fix the ones I thought needed it, but, at the time I had a pretty poor soldering iron. So I took the time, and guess what, it works great:-) Feel blessed that it works. I was not having any luck finding simple schrader valves to put in the air lines. Great advice. Great web site. Roger
