tazmocycle Posted September 20, 2009 #1 Posted September 20, 2009 well susan's ins comp. said they are dropping me at the first of the year, so on sept 29th, i'm going ahead and have my knee done and after recooping from it, i'm have my left leg fixed where it didn't mend after i broke it in my venture wreck in '05. it'll take about 5 or 6 weeks to recoop from my complete right knee replacement. on left, doc will take out old rod or nail as he calls it, ream out the bone and drive a bigger nail in. then he will clean out around the break where it didn't heal and put bone stem back around it to help it heals. 4-6 weeks recoop from that. i'll be out about 3 months if nothing goes wrong on either surgery or therapy. i do have short term disabilty that pays 60% of my pay and i have some vacation days to cover the first 7 days that it don't cover. have been putting back a little $s to carry me over hopefully. hope all goes well and i can still ride after it's all over, wish me well. thanks for your support, don.

Hummingbird Posted September 20, 2009 #7 Posted September 20, 2009 Good Luck on your surgery and recovery. It sounds like you've been thru it once and was successful doing your part. I'm still healing from a March 3rd total knee replacement. it's been 6 months and the Doc said that because of previous surgeries it could take me a year. Be sure to ask a LOT of questions about repairing the previous 'fix'

sarges46 Posted September 20, 2009 #17 Posted September 20, 2009 Hey Don All the best with the rebuilding. We hope all this had nothing to do with keeping you up too late and feeding you too many adult beverages while at Vogel! We hope to see you next time around the fire and crack a few more with you.
Yammer Dan Posted September 20, 2009 #18 Posted September 20, 2009 Starts a whole different string of thoughts when you here the word Nail don't it? I'm on my second one and they claim it is healing a lot better. Along with the plate in my foot and the screws. Metal Scanner at work went nuts when I went thru. Used to have some fun with the Rookies on it.. GOOD LUCK with it.
Crash Posted September 20, 2009 #19 Posted September 20, 2009 Good luck with knees and legs. I've got an ortho apt in 10 days for my left knee to see how bad it is and if synvis injection will help or if it's knee surgery or replacement time.
Wanderer Posted September 20, 2009 #20 Posted September 20, 2009 Don, I'm in Columbia, SC most of the time these days, but I do get back to Luverne every now and again. If there is any thing I can do for you when I'm home don't hesitate to ask. I mean it! Good luck on the surgery's, remember I'll be there to help if you need it and I can. Ted
