DragonRider Posted September 18, 2009 #1 Posted September 18, 2009 Well we finally got around to shooting the Black Beast, not in the put it out of its misery shoot but it now has a fresh new paint job. Spent the last three nights with my buddy from work painting it and it came out great. He did an awesome job painting it. Below are the pics of the process. Hopefully will have it reassembled in a few days...........The color is Ford Black with Pewter Trim. Had to go back with Black, after about 20 different choices, decided Black is beautiful..............:dancefool:
1 - UP Posted September 18, 2009 #2 Posted September 18, 2009 Lewis, It looks good. I like the paint that you used. It's going to look good when it's back together. Ken
Freebird Posted September 18, 2009 #3 Posted September 18, 2009 I agree...great color choices. I look forward to seeing it all back together. You DO remember how it goes back together right?
Wanderer Posted September 18, 2009 #4 Posted September 18, 2009 SWEET! That's a lot of pieces are you sure you can put all back together.
kenw Posted September 18, 2009 #5 Posted September 18, 2009 Great job! I wish I could paint like that!!
Squidley Posted September 18, 2009 #6 Posted September 18, 2009 Looking good Lew, I know I have had a lot of time with one of those spray guns in my hand. Love the color combo, almost looks like the '09 "S" model with a pewter instead of sea shell. Cant wait to see the bike all together...good job buddy
Venturous Randy Posted September 18, 2009 #7 Posted September 18, 2009 SWEET! That's a lot of pieces are you sure you can put all back together. I did not realize when I painted mine that I had so many seperate pieces, plus two extra side panels, until I had it all laid out. Lew, it is looking good. I am sure you will have a nice 1st gen to really be proud of. RandyA
Tartan Terror Posted September 18, 2009 #8 Posted September 18, 2009 Looks great! I remember when I did mine. I had Tupperware container all over the place labeled with bolts and such. I think I counted 37 invividual pieces to paint on mine.
LilBeaver Posted September 18, 2009 #9 Posted September 18, 2009 SWEET! That's a lot of pieces are you sure you can put all back together. Just remember the job isn't done right unless you have extra pieces in the end! Looks great!
dingy Posted September 18, 2009 #10 Posted September 18, 2009 How hard was the pin stripping to get off ? Did you sand stripes all the way down or use chemical to remove ? Dingy
DragonRider Posted September 18, 2009 Author #11 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Yes, Don I do remember how to put it back together, uh I think................ Yes Ken, I wish I could paint like that too.............my buddy said he isnt a pro, but cant prove that by me............In all it took 1 qt of primer, 1 quart of black, 1/2 pint of pewter, 1/2 gallon of clear. That was the base totals before hardener and reducer were added. 4 coats of black, and 4 coats of clear. The best part was the total for this came in at under $300.00. The clear which is the most expensive was given to me by a friend who closed his body shop, that was a money saver. Hopefully there will be no extra peices, maybe a couple I wont put back on intentionly..... The pin stripes were first removed with a razor, then I sanded them down to the plastic, there are a couple of spots that still came through on the box, but, you have to look really close to see them, I know someone here posted what you could use to take them off but I couldnt find it.......must have been a pre-crash post. Thanks for all the nice comments, I am going to take my time putting her back together, so I dont mess up the paint. I am anxious, but will be cautious about it.............the hardest part was deciding what color, I must have changed my mind 20 times, every time I saw a color I liked where I work, it made me rethink it over and over, but in the end, black is my favorite color for a bike, and pewter looks rich and great against the black. SilvrT Posted September 18, 2009 #12 Posted September 18, 2009 I didn't see anywhere what kind of paint was used... was it acrylic enamel or base coat/clear coat or what?

DragonRider Posted September 18, 2009 Author #14 Posted September 18, 2009 Base coat/clear coat. Brand was Shop-Line. Economy price paint. The clear coat was by Montana. I didn't see anywhere what kind of paint was used... was it acrylic enamel or base coat/clear coat or what?
SilvrT Posted September 18, 2009 #15 Posted September 18, 2009 Base coat/clear coat. Brand was Shop-Line. Economy price paint. The clear coat was by Montana. I'd like to buy another 1st gen and paint it ...again ... I'd love to experiment with House of Colors ... painting vehicles is/was a passion and specifically I enjoyed doing custom work. Ahhh but if I only had the time, the bucks, and the shop.... Waiting to see your end result... should look awesome!

Yammer Dan Posted September 19, 2009 #25 Posted September 19, 2009 It does look great Lew just had to help you with your blood pressure. My "Black Beauty" looks almost that good. Nothing but black & chrome. But my black has a few scratches. Now if I could just get her running and back togather.
