For those that have this unit, which do you think is better the 3 running light/brake light set-up or 11 running light/brake light set-up.

The best is doing 3 running lights, 11 brake lights, plus 5 flashing turn signals on each side. Ponch turned me on to some diode assy's that make this possible with just some small wiring changes. Why not have it all???

but his a kit , it should have the diodes in it , i have install some by just wiring into the trailer plug , if anybody already has a hoppy 5-4 adpter you don't need the kit .

Thom

PS i am going to order 2 of the 1157 led flashing brake lite bulbs for my trailer from him . there kwel

I don't see where his will function as a 3-way. It's running and brake only.

His kit consists of a couple of brackets (made mine in 15 minutes from some scrap strips of aluminum) and instructions. Wow. I'm unimpressed.

But for those who don't want the hassle of making their own brackets or reading the instructions that come from the manufacturer of the lightbar (and maybe this guy removes those), then go ahead and drop the big $$.

5 Flashing turn signals?? Wow! I've only got 2 on the back and 2 on the front. Do you add more turn signal lights? I suck at wiring is it complicated?

Actually there are a number of different manufacturers of these type of lights. There are different combinations of running, stopping and some have turn signals built in (4 LED's but I have not seen 5 LED's per side) I have seen prices from $15 to $60 and to be honest with you from the ones I've seen I think this one is the best built and best looking IMHO. Yes it is the most expensive with the fewest lighting options. I have one on my bike that came with the bike. It is the first model that came out (11 running and 11 braking LED's). He has come out with a few other combinations but like I've said before I have seen at least 4 other light bars and this ones quality seems to be surperior to the others. IMHO:stirthepot::2cents:

Is it worth twice as much as the others? Well some don't think so but only you can decide that for yourself. Mine was on the bike when I bought it so I don't have to shell out any money for it. They all look nice IMHO but some look better than others.

Well I "MISSPOKE" (hey, I could be a politician!).....it is only 4 leds per side in turn signal mode, not 5.

I don't believe the one on ebay is a 5 wire system, I think it's only a 3 wire. Can't have run, brake and turns with only a 3 wire. At least I don't know how you'd do that.

Innovative Lighting Products makes and sells the 5 wire model.

May be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, I haven't looked very hard.

Chrome Glow has one for about $32 I think and it has four wires so you can have turn signals if you want them. :thumbsup2:

Yeah, but what we're finding out (Freezy and I) is that it's an either or thing. Either you get running lights with brake lights or running lights with turn signals... Either or, not both. At least that's my take from their website:

Your absolutely right it is an either or thing. Where as mine has no adjustment it is strictly running and brake lights. I don't want the turn signals or need them. My license plate has additional turn signals on it.:confused24:

That's what I thought when I first added mine....I didn't need turn signals.

The first time I used my cooler rack and cooler I saw how wrong I was. The cooler covers up the entire brake light and turn signals. Not Good!!!

That's why I decided I needed something up higher that would not be covered. The light bar right beneath the trunk does the trick.

The bar that has only run and brake or run and Turn can be made to have run, brake, and turn by wiring in some diode assemblies that Ponch turned me on to. Then ya gots the best of all situations.

I would like to send our flashing 1157's to you just to give me some feedback on. If you hate them, let me know. If you like the, let me know.

All the talk about the costs.... after eBay and Paypal fees, and my time in cutting, wrapping wires, printing color instructions.... the kit is to encourage lots of folks who might not normally tackle a basic wiring job on their Venture. I'm not going to ever get rich making $3-4 an hour doing this - but I do like meeting other Venturers.

I am also the guy who makes our laser cut and powder coated mounting plates for the exhaust conversion. After paying to laser cut, and then the powder coating, that is a real "labor of love" as well.

Anybody ever want to stop by my house and help me hand cut the carpet liners for the trunks and saddlebags, or wrap the light bars, or build the quick fasteners, is more than welcome to. Makes the old hands sore!

Thanks to everybody who has been so great to get to know! And who has been so supportive! I am always more than willing to point folks in the right direction to make a kit themselves, cut their own mounting plates, etc (and that is noted in my ad on this site).

for us 1st gens to install the lite bar just remove the helmet locks and attach the lite bar in its place , i have spent almost 30 bucks installing brake lites storbes and they last about 6 months then i have to buy new ones so i am going to try his 1157 flashing bulbs and see how they work , i will replace both tail lite bulbs with them and install a tag lite to keep the consul from flashing , blue hair old lady:backinmyday: season is comming soon and i got to be ready  .

and for us who are or use tobe ebay sellers , more power to anybody that sells on ebay , its almost as much fun as doing group buys , :whistling::buttkick::rotfl::rotfl:

Thom -

I removed my helmet locks, installed an aluminum bar and the LED light, then made the bar long enough to put the helmet locks outboard of the light bar.

1) LED bar @ $16.00

2) Countersunk torx screws @ $2.00

3) Aluminum stock @ $6.00

4) Wiring stuff maybe $4.00

Took me about 45 minutes and looks fantastic. The helmet locks are still under the

trunk area. Helmet locks are actually easier to use now

yours install is better than mine , i did not put the helmet locks back , i cheated , Amazing Goop - 6.97 , a trick Wildhair showed me .

to wire tail , turn , brake , you can do it 2 ways , one , the way Ponch and i did is buy 2 diedos

from your local RV store , they are the type that has 2 inputs and 1 output , put 1 wire to 1 input from the turn sig. of bike and to the other input put the brake wire from the bike , from the outside of diedo run a wire to the sig. of lite bar do same to the other side . the 2nd way is just buy a hoppy 5-4 adpt. and wire the 5 wires into your bike and 4 wire to the lite bar , if all this is as clear as mud ask Ponch , he is pretty good at telling you how .

this is the bar i used http://www.chromeglow.com/catalog.asp?prodid=561931&showprevnext

I paid 15.99 for mine 4 years ago and had it posted on this site before the crash. If you check around you can find them a lot cheaper.

I got one for free ... that was a good price. Ran it on my trunk for over a year ... then Buddy noticed that I'd took it and made me give it back ...

I went to cancel the Light bar off of my Chrome Glow order and the guy steered me toward these Flexible Arrays with turn signals .

Seem pretty nice if you want Turn signals at the same time as brake lights. Joe was telling me that, even with the set up he's got, it's either turn signals or brake lights, not both. The turn signals will work to the point that you hit the brakes and then the brake lights dominate and the turn signals no longer flash. These look like they do all the tasks if that's what you need. Plus they're streamline, small and can be stuck virtually anywhere.

Just an FYI if anyone is looking for something like this. He commented that they're "extremely bright"

Yeah, Mark.....I saw those yesterday. I really like the "integrated" look, this one doesn't look so much like an add-on as the other light bar. And I really like the capability of having the flashing turn signal on at the same time as the brake light. If it just wasn't so danged expensive! Probably worth it if I didn't already have so much invested in my rear lighting already. I also have the HD chrome license plate holder with lights, and converted those lights to LED clusters. Also converted my stock tail/brake light to the Custom Dynamics LED board. Add to that the light bar under the trunk and the diode expense.....I'm afraid if I bought this integrated light bar too for another $100 the navigator would scalp me!!

I'll have to wait until maybe next summer and then sneak it in on her!

:big-grin-emoticon:

Edit: Like I've EVER been able to sneak anything past her! She knows what I'm gonna do before I do it! :)

Diodes are $1.25 for 10 of them at Radio shack, the highest priced place to get diodes.

Unless he made a harness and it's plug and play, then it's worth every penny.

Yeah, I noticed the price. I would have considered them but that would be way too much with the brake light board soo. I canceled the light bar and Chris was very nice and quick about that. I did buy the light board from these guys. It's exactly the same board as Custom Dynamics but I think it's a little cheaper. I can't be sure because they don't offer the Genesis I board anymore.

I have the Harley frame as well and I may have to do the cluster thing for the Harely lights later.
