Is it possible to run a wire to the front under the gas tank without takiing it off? I will need to run four wires two - and two +. One set for the gps and the other for a radio caddy.

Not really. The tank comes off easily enough, though. With practice, you can do it in 2 mkinutes. With the seat off, there is one 12mm bolt in the back to remove. Take the plastic cover in front of the gas cap off, 2 allen head screws, 4mm or 5mm, and unplug the connector for the gas guage, and remove the rubber vent hose. Next, turn your petcock OFF and remove the rubber hose. The last thing is the 2 allen head screws , one on each side of the tank. lift back and up, and viola...

You actually only need 2 wires. If you take the Positive and negative off the battery (use a #10 wire) you can share them both after you get to the fairing. Just be sure to fuse each one before connecting to the accessory.

The tank comes off really easy, but is easier if it is close to empty as it weighs less and the weight shifts less, so TRY to do it when the tank is 1/4 or less.

EASY instructions are in the FREE service manual.

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid I would have to take the tank off.

It's really not a big deal, you would spend way more time trying to fish wires under it, than you would to remove it and place the wires exactly where you want them. Dont be apprehensive, it's really just as easy as the folks have been saying.

Yes, I did all my own wrenching on my LC1500 and got pretty good at it. When I did take it to a dealer I would always end up with new scratches.

Might want to drain some of the fuel out of it to make it lighter. I keep mine topped off when it is parked. Tank removal is really easy...and a Lighter tank is easier to slip it off without dinging it on the bars of something. Go slow and it is nothing to it. :fingers crossed:

I have taken my tank off a couple of times and it is really easy to remove but when I was installing my passing lights, I wanted to power them from the battery through a relay and I just stuck a coat hanger down under the tank. I taped the wires to the coat hanger and pulled them through and out into the fairing and didn't remove the tank. That was easy as well.

i have the same problem all the time. i need to run a couple of wires on my nomad. for oil pressure and power outlet. i just got an idea. take the tank off one time and run a small diameter piece of soft copper tubing along the frame, and secure it with nylon ties. bend it to follow the curve accordingly. flare the ends. then any time you need to run a wire just shove it through the tubing. could work. i think i'll try it. you can also use a piece of baling wire and feed it through then put a loop in the end and pull the wire through. i did that on my wing. it was a ***** but it worked. bill

It's so easy, even Dave77459 can do it!:thumbsup2:

When you get it off, put in a couple extra leads in the chase, so you don't have to do it again.

Dave

I did that!! Used 1 so far and still have another spare for future projects!!

You have 2 channels that you can route the wires thru, on the left and right. 4 phillips screws aqnd the cover comes off to route the wires where they will stay put...

You are lucky that the wires did not interfere with the carb linkage...
