Robin and I are headed to the Grand Canyon October 1st. The first night we will spend in Laughlin, then on to Williams in Arizona. Can anyone here can tell me what we should see and which way to head when we arrive at the park? I've been told the weather would be great at this time of year in Arizona.

See it all. If you can head around to the north rim. Totally different experience. Climate is different. Not as desert like on the north rim. well worth the trip if you have the time. Our route to the GC was from williams to the south rim then headed east around the canyon to Marble (gorge canyon ?). Then up to Kanab Utah to spend the night. Then back south to the north rim. Very windy and cool/cold on that day.

If you can head down to Sedona as well. Go north to south on this trip Georgeous scenery here as well and lots of switch back roads heading down into the valley leading to sedona.

Watchout for severe thunder storms, hail, lightening, dark of night.....Bad if you get caught in one of these storms with no place to hide. Even worse if you get caught in a flash flood. All of this can happen in a hurry while traveling in this back country.

Have lots of fun. I would make this trip a gain in a heartbeat.

Whatever else you do, invest in a helicopter ride into the canyon. Take one that includes a lunch stop in the canyon. You won't be sorry!!! We did that in 03 and we still talk about it.

when you leave Laughin , go over davis dam and make a left to Katherine's landing , ck it out , than back out to kingman arz. , out of kingman take old hyw. 66 up to peach springs you love old 66 and it takes you back to the big road west of williams , take the train up to the south rim very cool , cross over at lake Powell than ck. out kanab [ sand dunes but red ],kodac [ watch out for the royal elk ] cider city , and zion . warnings it mite be 80% to 90% during the day but it can drop to 32% at nite , when i ride out there i always take a tent and a sleeping bag because you can camp anywhere . always , always , let a car or truck lead when your north of the canyon the deer are in herds up to 1500 , all riders that know the area will always let a cage lead :rotfl:

by the way ,many , many years ago i was born and raised in that area :rotfl:

Leonard, you and Robin have a GRAND time. Hoping to make that trip next year. Wish we were going with you this year - as our little NorCal trip got washed out - but oh well. We'll be thinking of ya - and take plenty of pics.:thumbsup2:  :smile11::beer:

When you leave Laughlin, head south on 95 through Bullhead City and Mojove Valley until you come to a large sign on your right that says to turn right to the Avi resort. Turn left instead and head up to Oatman. Old Gold mining town Lots of donkeys, a shootout on Main Street and the Oatman Hotel with lots of history. Make sure and get one of their Buffalo Burgers and fries. Great food. Head north out of Oatman on old 66 and around the mountain to Kingman. Great ride.

If possable make it to the North Rim, I like it much better than the South Rim. It is a very impresive sight from any angle. Wear good walking shoes and take lots of pics. A friend went to the "Sky Walk" and he said it was a must see but it was pricey. Rod
