mrc Posted September 13, 2009 #1 Posted September 13, 2009 I figured this would be the only chance to take my son on a real biking trip because next year he starts university and would not be able to go again for years to come. So we packed the trailer, gassed up the two bikes and headed out with only one destination … anywhere the sun was shinning. 2800 miles (4500km) and we were home. What a priceless trip. Road in 10 States and 1 province Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York We had the unbelievable experience of riding the following; The Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, Tellico Plains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah Valley and at Deals Gap we tamed the dragon. After we left the Appalachian Mountains we headed for the Adirondacks in New York. We were at Sweetwater, Robbinsville, Cherokee, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and visited places like The Lost Sea, The Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns, Ruby Falls, Rock City, Smokey Mountain National Park, Tennessee Aquarium, and the Ohio Caverns. Priceless time spent. Some of the pics from the trip.
eazyduzzit Posted September 13, 2009 #2 Posted September 13, 2009 Thanks for sharing. I'm sure neither of you will ever forget this ride.
BuckShot Posted September 13, 2009 #3 Posted September 13, 2009 Sounds like you had a blast. Great pics.
silverdeer0454 Posted September 16, 2009 #5 Posted September 16, 2009 Great pictures and an adventure of a lifetime. Wish I could do stuff like that with my kids. Picture 15 looks like a shot from Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid.
yamadawg Posted September 16, 2009 #6 Posted September 16, 2009 Thank you for sharing with us! The photos of Rock City bring back fond memories as we used to live in the valley you see just below it. We are now close to the Dragon, and finished our vacation this year riding Skyline Drive and the BRP. You helped us relive those memories, too. Thanks! I am very glad you and the family had a great time!
Squidley Posted September 16, 2009 #7 Posted September 16, 2009 Great to hear your ride was a good one Mark, how did the RSV perform for you?
fishinjer Posted September 16, 2009 #8 Posted September 16, 2009 Looks like you had a great time, and great pics
mrc Posted September 16, 2009 Author #9 Posted September 16, 2009 Great to hear your ride was a good one Mark, how did the RSV perform for you? The bike ran perfectly, it handled like a dream. I did the Dragon’s tail with Rach on the back while pulling the trailer, then asked Chris for the keys to his bike and scraped a bit of metal from his pegs alone. We managed to stay off the tree of shame. Sorry we didn’t get out towards your place on the way out because we left to late that day.

Venturous Randy Posted September 16, 2009 #11 Posted September 16, 2009 Wow, what great pictures and as said, memories of a lifetime. You can see why I love calling east Tennessee home. RandyA
Squidley Posted September 16, 2009 #12 Posted September 16, 2009 Sorry we didn’t get out towards your place on the way out because we left to late that day. No worries, I understand how vacations work out, great to hear of your trip and that the bike performed well
Patrick46 Posted September 16, 2009 #13 Posted September 16, 2009 To me...it's a very spiritual experience to ride alongside my kids (our son, & now our daughter both ride their own bikes). He's a fantastic rider (I'd like to get him on a GP bike out on a track.) We rode to Bonneville Speed Week last summer with him, and had a ball. (we're leaving Friday morning for 2 weeks in Moab, Arches, Bryce, and Yosemite....WHOO-HOO!!!) This will be a memory you folks can share for years to come.

This will be a memory you folks can share for years to come. +1 To this except from a different prospective... A few weeks ago I was able to treat my parents to a mini-vacation (neither have had time off in the last 6 years). I rode up to Michigan on my Venture and we (them on my Wing) spent 2 days riding about 800 miles (my dad and I ended up putting on around 1000 total riding together for the few days I was there...). And That is the first time I had ridden with both of them. Long ago I did many 'quick' rides (max of 200 miles) puttering around with my dad and a few with my mom but this was different. This ride was extra special to me for many reasons and it meant a lot to me to be able to do this with them. Point being, I'm sure your son enjoyed himself and feels the same way!
Larry C. Posted September 17, 2009 #15 Posted September 17, 2009 In the summer of 2000 when my daughter graduated from H.S. we decided to take a road trip to California from Southern Illinois. 2 1/2 weeks, two route's, many stop's, visited many landmarks, and relative's and the memory still goes on and on. She went off to college and moved away like we figured she would and is now a professional with a great career started, we couldn't be prouder of her. It's always great to hear of a parent and child bonding in the years when children have many decisions and generally want to distance themselves from Mom and Dad. Keep up the great work for they are our future. Nuf Said
