Indyscotch Posted September 9, 2009 #26 Posted September 9, 2009 Royal Star Tour Deluxe - RIP... Venture - does not appear look good for the V4 set. Sorry, but a cheesy new paint scheme does not a new model make. Depressing and frustrating. I have been looking to trade my RSTD for the full size scooter for three years now but have not seen a compelling reason given the length of time the current version has been on the market. There is still an 08 in my local dealer (listed at $14,500 if anyone is interested!). The only thing I can think is that the Star boys really got a good deal on all those obsolete cassette decks. I'd love to see the demographic on big touring bikes. Do you think that Yamaha is loosing market share to the other manufacturers and to save cash are consolidating their brand offerings? The web is full of complaints about outdated technology/features on the RSV, so the company has to know it and thus must have a reason to ignore it. Maybe an 1800 RSV is out there somewhere, but it does not seem likely to come anytime soon.
BuckShot Posted September 9, 2009 #27 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Now with the flames, the RSV looks like Yam is trying to copy HD. Strat. kind of looks like a Street Glide, although a bit futuristic. Son just asked why Yamaha doesn't do something original. Said Strat. looks like a cross between a Street Glide and a Victory Vison. George Jetson syndrom. Edited September 9, 2009 by BuckShot Son's view
CrazyHorse Posted September 9, 2009 #28 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Snarley Bill and I have been "discussing" which direction Yamaha will go with their future touring bike....he says it will be an updated Venture with the new Vmax 1800 engine. I've been saying that I believe it will be based on the Stratoliner. Take a look at the 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe. They are halfway there....fairing, sound system, hard bags, etc. All it lacks for me is 1.) Cruise Control and 2.) the Trunk. Hey Bill.....I can almost taste that Culpepper's Fish!!! Joe Looking more like a Victory Vision Royal Star Tour Deluxe - RIP... Venture - does not appear look good for the V4 set. Sorry, but a cheesy new paint scheme does not a new model make. Maybe an 1800 RSV is out there somewhere, but it does not seem likely to come anytime soon. I can never find any actual sales numbers can anyone else? My newest prediction is the Venture name dies here. This Stratoliner will take over for the current 2nd Gen Harley competitor ( it has the big 1800 Vtwin motor and an Ipod hook up on it and O my GOD fuel injection.) and Yamaha will go in a different direction with the new Vmax motor something on lines of a big sport tourer with a touch of performance and comfort. To me it makes sense why waste that high performance Vmax motor on a crusier type bike when they have this Stratoliner 1800 Vtwin for that style. Now I'm more convinced it will be a sportier/touring type bike with the new Vmax motor with a different name. Who knows what it will look like though. Just my 2 cents. I have a couple of friends that have the Street Glide they both say the same thing crappy handling at speed the fairing causing some issues. Edited September 9, 2009 by CrazyHorse
GigaWhiskey Posted September 9, 2009 #29 Posted September 9, 2009 Eh, they will prolly do what they did before. Drop the first gen, bring in the FJR, bring in the second gen, drop the second gen, bring in something like the FJR and then see the third gen to compete with some other bike. Third time is charm!
craigatcsi Posted September 9, 2009 #30 Posted September 9, 2009 After reading all of these posts, I think what Jimbo5 said might be more the direction they go. - A 'Sport Tourer'. Like he said, why waste all of that power the VMax has, de-tuning it for a 'Cruiser'. I have always liked the 'potato, potato' sound and missed it coming from a Vulcan Classic 1500 to my 07 Venture. That was probably the biggest thing that kept me from the Venture for a while. Now, I LOVE my Venture so much, the 'potato potato' isn't as important. I just joke that this bike sounds like 'a sewing machine'. (Just ordered Bubs last night). Choppers aren't that big of a deal anymore, I wonder if Honda missed the boat on their 'Fury'. I would be surprised if any of the other Metrics came out with one. Honda has a couple of 'Sport Tourers' and Kawasaki has the Concourse. I have been wondering if the Sport Tourers were the next wave of the future, as Everyone seems to have cruisers - so they aren't 'special' anymore, though they are sooo comfortable. AND the kids on the 'crotch rockets' are getting older. Just something to think about, craigr
buddy Posted September 9, 2009 #31 Posted September 9, 2009 To me it looks like the 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe is a copy cat of the HD Glide and if you add the trunk , it would be close copy cat to the Ultra Glide . After all these years you figured Yamaha would come up with their own version instead of chasing after HD. Makes me wonder now if and when the New 3 Gen. Venture comes out what would it look like since they seem to copy cat other models? Gold Wing - HD Ultra - Victory?
dr_bar Posted September 9, 2009 #32 Posted September 9, 2009 I hope Mikes info isn't accurate... Check out the discontinued list near the bottom. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2010models/2010models-yamaha.htm
Squeeze Posted September 9, 2009 #33 Posted September 9, 2009 Its interesting to see the different models offered in Europe vs the USA. Here's the German page. http://www.yamaha-motor.de/products/motorcycles/ btw, no Royal Stars at all... The had to drop them off the List, because the Bike doesn't meet European Pollution Laws anymore, just like 1Gen Vmax dropped out June 2006. They could sell leftovers until End of 2006 and with a special Waiver (seldom and only if lucky) until March 2007 then all was over ...
