Venturous Randy Posted September 4, 2009 #1 Posted September 4, 2009 A while back I replaced my signal light unit on the handlebar because mine was the kind where you push the lever down to cancel and I wanted to kind you push in. Since I have had this one, I have had a strange issue. When I turn the signal on, it works and cancels in the correct amout of time and it will manually cancel when I push the button in. The problem is I can go a distance after I use it and it cancels and sometimes when I come to a stop, it will start blinking again. I have to manually push it in to cancel. This is frustrating as there have been several times I have come to an intersection and it will start blinking, for in the last way it was used. This has had people cross in front of me because they think I am turning. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any suggestions? RandyA
sgn Posted September 4, 2009 #2 Posted September 4, 2009 I'm sure you have tried all the really common stuff. (Clean and tighten, etc.) So my only suggestion is stick a tent peg in it and go on. Now if we can start at the beginning - when you changed switched the controller did you make any modifications to the wiring harness? or was it a direct swap. Still have the "old" unit - maybe a reinstall and ride for a while would narrow it down to the "new" unit or if the problem is still there it would be "outside" the unit and go from there. SGN
Venturous Randy Posted September 4, 2009 Author #3 Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks for responding Steve and I think I fixed it. I split the halfs of the unit and inside there is a plastic plate that goes between the handlebar and another metal plate that holds the wires in place to keep them from getting chaffed. The metal plate, which has only one screw, was not seated well and was crooked enough to slightly touch the copper fingers of the power wire. Evidently the power wire, which will go to both sides of the mechanism that slides was grounded. Normally, when you move the slide, the power wire fingers causes that part of the signal to activate and then moves away when released. The slide actually stays against the side that was last used unless you push the button in. By grounding, it appears it was reactivating that signal again. After putting it in place and trying to duplicate the problem, it never happened again. So, that may be one more of these electrical demons I can get passed. Hey, I am on vacation for a week so give me a call sometime. RandyA
Venturous Randy Posted September 6, 2009 Author #4 Posted September 6, 2009 After riding some today, it is still doing it so it is not fixed. I may have to dig out the other one and see what it does. Eeerrrg! RandyA
Dano Posted September 6, 2009 #5 Posted September 6, 2009 I hate it when you get a false sense of repair like that.
