kyle Posted September 4, 2009 #1 Posted September 4, 2009 anyone know the exact rpm at redline and exact rpm for the rev limiter?? been getting a little hotroddy lately and just don't want to over doi it.. havent hit the rev limiter yet but need to know what its set at. thanx
pegscraper Posted September 4, 2009 #2 Posted September 4, 2009 The rev limiter hits at 7000 rpms I believe, and that will keep you from getting anywhere near the actual engine redline. There's no way to overdo it. You're really not missing much even with the low rev limiter setting. With the small cams the engine has, by 7000 rpms, you're above the powerband and it's time to shift anyway.
mm482 Posted September 4, 2009 #3 Posted September 4, 2009 The rev limiter is set at 6300 to 6500 RPM. Earl 86 VR 00 RSV:Bunny2:
kyle Posted September 4, 2009 Author #4 Posted September 4, 2009 which one ?? 7000 rpm or 63-6500 rpm ???
KiteSquid Posted September 4, 2009 #5 Posted September 4, 2009 anyone know the exact rpm at redline and exact rpm for the rev limiter?? been getting a little hotroddy lately and just don't want to over doi it.. havent hit the rev limiter yet but need to know what its set at. thanx Hit it and HOLD it there!!!! You will NOT hurt the motor at those low RPM....... Yamaha was CONSERVATIVE with this set point.
Yammer Dan Posted September 4, 2009 #6 Posted September 4, 2009 When the 1st Gen starts to leave you its time to shift!! Won't help but it MIGHT keep you in sight in the 1st Gens rear view.
boominup Posted September 5, 2009 #7 Posted September 5, 2009 Last time I went against a 1st Gen I had to BACK OFF because there was so much broken plastic coming at me!! Harleys shed nuts and bolts, 1st Gens shed plastic!! LOL!! Brian

Boomer.....who knows full well the danger of 2 wheeled warshing machines on the road.
mini-muffin Posted September 5, 2009 #9 Posted September 5, 2009 1st gens don't have rev limiters like the 2nd. Not sure why Yamaha did that but ya'll have to deal with it. Seems the speed is slightly different from bike to bike, but not by much. Since we ride with lots of 2nd gens they all have found their rev limit. Oh also noticed folks who never rode a 1st gen seem to have the most to say about them being old. Just remember how grateful you should be means your old 2nd gens won't be dead at 20 + yrs. Also the oldest 2nd gen is now 10 yrs old. Margaret
Yammer Dan Posted September 5, 2009 #10 Posted September 5, 2009 And who is going to outrun who??10 yr old or 16- 25 yr old???

Sure it was a good ride but no way does it compare to my 03 in comfort, especially for my "Rev Limiter" in the back seat. How fast do I need to go, anyhow?? If that's all there is to riding, I'da traded it in on an 1800 Wing. Brian
Midrsv Posted September 5, 2009 #13 Posted September 5, 2009 I hit the rev limiter at about 6400 rpm on my '07. It was the same on my '04. Dennis
Yammer Dan Posted September 6, 2009 #14 Posted September 6, 2009 black is still the fastest. :clap2: read below!!!!
boominup Posted September 6, 2009 #16 Posted September 6, 2009 It is 6400 rpm on 2nd gen. It is 7500 rpms on MY 2nd Gen. Thank you DynaTech!! Brian
