Tire change today

Going to change my tires today... I purchased the Balancer from Marc Parnes, and looks like a fine tool...I have a Bike jack, and whole bunch of tools, Now to take the bike apart and get it all back together again.... wife thinks it will end up on the trailer getting hauled to the Stealer.... I may need to get with ya`ll if I run into problems....wish me luck, and any pointers for this would be appreciated....

I'm afraid that I can't be much help. I bought a Harbor Freight changer about 3 years ago and have yet to use it. I WILL one of these days but every time I've been ready for a tire, I've been in to big of a hurry to mess with it. From what I've read, the main thing is to be very careful putting the tire on. It is easy to scratch or ding the rim if you aren't very careful.

Good for you. I change my own tires but I have no balancer. I balanced the rear tire the old fashion way 18,000 miles ago and when I put a new tire on the front I took the tire to a dealer and had it balanced about 6,000 miles ago and I actually think the front might be slightly out of balance. So go figure.

I've done mine, by hand. Just a couple tire irons. I just cut up a plastic milk bottle to use a rim guards so I didn't gouge them up.

Also if you're using the same model tire you're taking off don't remove the wheel weights from the rim until after you've changed the tires. you will probably find that the balance is right on. it has been for me. Jus make sure you line up the dot with the valve stem.

You may have known this stuff, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Good luck. The first time will take longer than the next. Just take your time and if you get frustrated then take a break. The first time I did it I was surprise at how easy the new tire went on. One secret is to leave the new tire in the sun while you take the old tire off, then the new tire will be warm and pliable. Also, whatever you use for lubricant, don't slosh it into the tire. You don't want to have a bunch of liquid swishing around messing up your balance.

 

I really don't use the big long tire changing tool that comes with the Harbor freight tire changer. I just use two tire irons and work the tire into place. The big long changing bar works great on car tires though.

ok, I have questions already, the Cyclemore book says to remove the seats and the rear fender, is the the case with the TF model ?? also, on my new Venum`s I can`t find a " DOT " to line up with the Valve stem...any Ideas??

I haven't removed the seat or fender to get the whhel off. Just had to jack the bike high enough. also there should be an ink spot near the bead maybe yellow or white that you line up with the valve stem. never saw a bike tire without one.

When we installed the Avon's on my Venture we could not find any mark to line up with the valve stem. We even removed the tire to look inside. Then someone on this site wrote that Avon does not have to mark the tire...they are so well made, they don't have a heavy spot??? My rims must be unbalanced because it took over 5 ounces of weight to balance em...When we installed the new Metzlers with the spot lined up with the valve stem, we had to remove all the weights...

My Avons have no dots to mount by the tire stem. I installed the rear tire three weeks ago. It took exactly 1 oz of weights to balance the tire. Just inspected it this week after 3400 miles. Looks fine with no excessive wear.

Thanks to eveyone that responded.... I got them changed... I started taking pics, then just kinda forgot about the camara.. I used a bottle jack between the bumper of my truck and the tire to break the bead on the old tires, My wife went to Harber Freight and bought me the tire changer and the motor cycle tire addapter..... they will not work with these rims, so it is going back to the store.. I also will be ordering one of those lift braces from our Brother on this form.... never relized how bad I needed one until I tried to get the rear tire in the air... Any way, I learned alot and I got the job done..
