rdhc Posted September 3, 2009 #1 Posted September 3, 2009 I am using Amsol Synthetic oil. What is the max miles I should travel between oil changes. I have put on 2000 miles since the last change, but I am heading out on a 2500 mile trip in a couple of weeks. Should I change the oil before my trip?
Kross Kountry Posted September 3, 2009 #2 Posted September 3, 2009 If you use a good quality filter, you sould be good for 6000 to 8000 miles on Amsoil. Some of our fellow riders do 10,000 miles on synthetic oil. I run Rotella 15w-40 Dino and I change it about every 4000 miles. I could strech mine a little further but my bike shifts smoother on new oil. Enjoy the road trip!
buddy Posted September 3, 2009 #3 Posted September 3, 2009 Its really your call on this? I use Mobil 1 10w40 Syn. on both bikes, change oil every 6,000mi or when ever i feel like it, if I go over a little no biggie. no problems so far If it were me I would change it when I came back from the trip . Amsoil - Mobil 1 Syn. oils last longer than Dino oil. does not protect any better just last longer.....
GeorgeS Posted September 3, 2009 #4 Posted September 3, 2009 Just change the filter, if you are worried about it.
Evan Posted September 3, 2009 #7 Posted September 3, 2009 Glad you asked RDHC as I have the same question. I put Amsoil in the 88VR that I bought earlier this year and am about to change it at around 8000km. I phoned the tech people at Amsoil and they say that Amsoil mc oil does not need to be changed until double the reccomended change interval by Yamaha I am not reccomending that, just reporting what they claim. Also, my own experience seems to differ from others in that my shifting (especially into neutral) seems to be getting smoother with more miles, at lest so far.
V7Goose Posted September 3, 2009 #8 Posted September 3, 2009 Your bike has a specified 4,000 oil change interval, and earlier RSVs had an 8,000 mile change interval. So I wouldn't even give a second thought to it, even if the bike had standard oil in it. Goose
