timgray Posted September 1, 2009 #1 Posted September 1, 2009 At least that is what I think they are. If you have a royale, these screws/bolts are holding your radio controls to the handlebars. If you dont have a Royale, there are plastic plugs over the holes in the clutch and brake reservoirs. I am trying to mount something in those locations and cant find what bolt goes in there. Plus I'm sure the right hand one is left and thread from the looks of it. Anyone know of a store online that may have metric fine thread left hand bolts in chrome? If not chrome then stainless? if not stainless then anything? I'm sure finding a set of stock ones is like finding hen's teeth.
CrazyHorse Posted September 1, 2009 #2 Posted September 1, 2009 I think one could mount regular motorcycle mirrors in those holes and I believe Yamaha uses a left hand thread on one of them. So if you have a regular Yamaha mirror you could find out the thread size from that. I have a hardware store near that I have to go to that has damn near every kind of bolt/nut in chrome stainless whatever. I could look for you.
timgray Posted September 1, 2009 Author #3 Posted September 1, 2009 They are M10 1.25 bolts that are a MAX of 20mm long, Left one is standard thread, right one is left handed thread. Locally, nobody carries metric. every place I went to asking for metric bolts gave me a look as if I was insane for asking for such a thing.
lonestarmedic Posted September 1, 2009 #4 Posted September 1, 2009 Tim- I mounted my Garmin 2820 on the right. I gave up and bought a thread insert kit for 10 x 1.25 - RH thread. I covered the bike, held my breath and drilled out the hole. Tapped and threaded the right hand thread kit in and used a bare touch of red lock-tite on the way in. The result was perfect!! Plenty of meat for the threads and the insert I chose was just right. Now, I could use chrome or S/S allen head bolts to finish. I used a ram mount that had the bolts included. Only problem is I can't put the chrome covers on the master cylinders now. Not enough room on the RH side. Someplace is a set of pictures showing the mount and the Garmin. Either in the GPS/Audio section or the 1st Gen tech section. JB
Eck Posted September 1, 2009 #5 Posted September 1, 2009 Most any Ace Hardware store carries chrome metric bolts on the shelf and they can get whatever size you want / need even if they have to order it. Lowe's and Home Depot both carry just plain black metric hardware and very few chrome pieces..

Lowe's and Home Depot both carry just plain black metric hardware and very few chrome pieces.. I saw that until I went to my local ace... Nope sorry no chrome in metric I was told. I'm thinking of drilling an tapping both sides to SAE so I can use chrome allen cap screws instead of big hex head bolts. It's not like I'm going to put mirrors on there... Thanks all for the ideas and help. Lonestar, get a aluminum polishing kit from harbor freight and wetsand the clutch and brake caps. you can polish them to a chrome look quite easily.
lonestarmedic Posted September 3, 2009 #7 Posted September 3, 2009 Tim - I have the kit and about 4 inserts left yet. If you want to use it let me know. I can give you a website to find the bolts. Chrome metric allens for about $4.00 each. Might polish the caps this winter. Or might just repaint them. I got the chrome covers on the parts bike. Did not get the bolts! Covers were in the trunk. I think I can get at least the right hand thread locally in either chrome or stainless Ill have to check about the lefty one. This hardware store near me amazes me with the amount of choice in bolts nuts etc. Give me a couple of days.
Wizard765 Posted September 3, 2009 #9 Posted September 3, 2009 I was able to find a set of chrome helmet holder studs that fit those holes. I really like the ability to just hang my helmet there and not have to worry about it falling off etc. BUT I cannot locate the left hand thread version any more (a friend wants a set). You can still get the right hand thread anywhere and they also fit early model Goldwings. Would like to know if there are any left hand versions available anywhere. Anyhow they fill the hole and have a practical use. I was still able to get the chrome cover on as well. Wayne
