mbrood Posted August 31, 2009 #1 Posted August 31, 2009 I have a line on a CB for the 1st gen in pretty good shape but it looks to be about 5" deep where my 86 uses one that's only about 3"... anybody know the year this one would fit?
MiCarl Posted August 31, 2009 #2 Posted August 31, 2009 I haven't measured it but I'd guess the one on my 89 is closer to 5" than 3. I have an 86 Royale in the shop. Looking through the coolant door it seems to be just as deep as the one on my 89.
Wizard765 Posted September 1, 2009 #3 Posted September 1, 2009 I believe the ones on the Mk2 are about 5" and the optional ones for the Mk1 were shorter and probably around 3". Those ones are more rare and harder to find. By 86 all the Royales had CB but the Royales from 83 to 85 only had the CB as an option.. To install the CB out of an 86 or up in my 84 I had to move my CLASS and modify the upper fairing a bit to make it fit. Wayne
mbrood Posted September 1, 2009 Author #4 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) The unit I'm looking at is 6 1/4" from the back of the faceplate to the end !!! The faceplate and writing look brand new but the metal body ends in with a cutout at the rear... the short "shelf" has the rf connector and the power lead and din connector are at the extreme back. part # 59J-88180-01 on the part and Yamaha micro-fiche says the same number for the 86 through 93 . I guess just the MK1 was short as noted... but they aren't even shown in the micro-fiche listing. I guess my 86 was "fixed" with an earlier model, strange. Edited September 1, 2009 by mbrood
