jonsmyth Posted August 26, 2009 #1 Posted August 26, 2009 I need a special screwdriver- torx YU-25359- to remove the "tamper resistant" screws in the covers of my carbs on my 87 venture. Any sources? I cringe at the thought of buying anything from them and you pay through the nose...and arm... Thanks!
Yammer Dan Posted August 26, 2009 #2 Posted August 26, 2009 Harbor Freight has a set of security bits with one in it for 3 or 4 bucks.
GeorgeS Posted August 26, 2009 #3 Posted August 26, 2009 Check tool department at the hardware store: Most of use, simply replace those screws, Usually its impossible to get those tamper proof screws out without damaging them beyond repair.
rjg1985 Posted August 26, 2009 #4 Posted August 26, 2009 I bought mine at our local Fastenal store and while i was there i bought new stainless socket head screws to replace the old ones.
BuddyRich Posted August 26, 2009 #5 Posted August 26, 2009 I just take a screwdriver of the right size and break the tit off. Then just use a regular torx bit. You don't have to worry about warranty so why not.
Venturous Randy Posted August 26, 2009 #6 Posted August 26, 2009 Use Vise Grips to break that screw loose, and probably the others, and then replace them with allen head screws. You will be glad you did. RandyA
