screaming red Posted August 21, 2009 #1 Posted August 21, 2009 Looking to put a wider tire at the rear. What is the widest tire you guys have installed. Curious how it handles, especially leaning in turns. Screaming Red:doh:
Freebird Posted August 21, 2009 #2 Posted August 21, 2009 You are pretty much as wide as you can go. Look at the clearance you have now between the swingarm and the tire. I wouldn't try it.
sarges46 Posted August 21, 2009 #3 Posted August 21, 2009 Pretty sure you cant go wider on either the first gen or second gen. Have a look at yours and you will see there is not much room. Second gen owners have changed the front tire for a narrower 130 for more responsive feel.
Brake Pad Posted August 21, 2009 #4 Posted August 21, 2009 I have a 2007 venture. I have a 150 on the front, and a 180 on the back (because) I pull a trailer. I want more rubber on the ground, on the back tire, you will NOT get a full lean with a tire that wide. Hope this helps
screaming red Posted August 27, 2009 Author #5 Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks guys I think from what I hear I will stay with the 150. Screaming Red:225:
jburrell Posted August 27, 2009 #6 Posted August 27, 2009 If you go the 130 front tire you will see an amazing difference. Sudenly the bike is no longer quite as top heavy and it seems to just fall into turns and making a slow turn in a parking lot becomes quite easy.I changed mine 2 months ago and the change is unbelievable. So much easier to ride now. my Jim Thanks guys I think from what I hear I will stay with the 150. Screaming Red:225:
Wanderer Posted August 27, 2009 #7 Posted August 27, 2009 I did increase the size of my rear on my former Voyager. The tire manufacturer says, and this is not an exact quote from Dunlop, but you may go one size larger.
