bill04 Posted September 20, 2007 #1 Posted September 20, 2007 Getting ready to change both tire on the bike .Everybody here seems to go for Avon's tire (Venom) and putting a smaller size on the front wheel .What am I to do my mechanic here says that he had problems whit AVON tires and I don't want to put Bridgestone's on the bike again these are tough but they run hard and have no comfort . So what is the front size recommended .
pegscraper Posted September 20, 2007 #2 Posted September 20, 2007 Well, he has to be the only one. I suppose everyone will make a defective tire once in a while, but this is the first I've heard of this one. The narrower size is 130/90/16, or MT90/16.
Stoutman Posted September 20, 2007 #3 Posted September 20, 2007 The narrower Avon also has a ligher load rating than the stock size. It is a 74 load rating, vs. a 71 on the stock size. The rear tire is sold in the regular and higher load rating. If you buy from Southwest Moto they ship the higher load rating tire for the rear. If you run heavy this is a good way to go. The other option is to go with the Michelin Commanders. I know Freebird and others use the Michellin and like the ride and wear.
Tom Posted September 20, 2007 #4 Posted September 20, 2007 I just took off a set of Metz that had 1700 miles on em. They started cracking on the rear tread and yes I had the correct pressure as I am a fanatic about that. My opinion and Ramblingman can testify to it is that the stock tire size and going with Avons make it handle like its 300 lbs lighter it seems. I felt no need to go to a smaller tire after I put the Avons on. Tom.

trandeod Posted September 21, 2007 #8 Posted September 21, 2007 I switched to Avons on my VTX and got one out-of-round. The dealer says he's getting a lot of them. He ordered a new one and it was okay. When it came time to "shoe" my RSV, I went back to Dunlops. Hard to beat a winner.
JMC Posted September 21, 2007 #9 Posted September 21, 2007 Just put on Avon MT90 2 days ago. I want to say thanks for all the great info. on tires bike is much easier to ride at slow speeds. jmc
