660grizz Posted August 20, 2009 #1 Posted August 20, 2009 My 2007 RSV doesn't have a tool kit. Looking at this as a replacement http://www.jcwhitney.com/CRUZTOOLS-ROADTECH-TOOL-KITS/GP_2015279_N_111+20000110+600014236_10111.jcw How does this compare with the OEM kit?
LilBeaver Posted August 20, 2009 #2 Posted August 20, 2009 I cannot answer your question directly but I can caution you that you will probably want to add a 17mm wrench (oil drain plug), an air gauge that reads more than 20psi, a spark plug socket that fits our plugs (18mm), I do not have an OEM kit (the previous owner said he could not find it) so I picked up a few nylon bags and filled it on my own tools (for much less than $80 I might add). Hopefully someone else can chime in to help answer your question though. I know that there are a few threads that discuss the OEM tool kit (or the discussions may be buried in the threads anyways). According to the Assembly manual (for 2001 to 2004 bikes anyway) the OEM tool kit should include: Tool bag, Wrench (10mm, 12mm), Wrench (14m, 17mm), screwdriver grip, scredriver bit (phillips-slotted), screwdriver bit (phillips), 4mm Hex wrench, 5mm hex wrench, 6mm hex wrench, 8mm hex wrench, spark plug wrench, spannar handle, air gauge, pliers I looked at purchacing an OEM kit just to make my bike complete but decided against it since the cheapest I could find it was for $70 and in my experience the OEM tool kits end up with chinsey tools anyways. Hope this helps.
Thistledown Posted August 20, 2009 #3 Posted August 20, 2009 The kit that comes with the bike is low quality. I suggest you can make up your own kit for less than the one at JCwhitney
660grizz Posted August 20, 2009 Author #4 Posted August 20, 2009 Thanks. Not sure why I have this very strong urge to put the bike back to stock. Maybe I have OCD. Some of the bolts holding on the luggage are not OEM either. Pisses me off.
massey130 Posted August 20, 2009 #5 Posted August 20, 2009 that seems a little high. i frequent pawn shops & the bins of tools are numerous. i am going to put together a tool kit from these bins. should be in the 20 to30 dollar range. i have pig leather i can make a roll pouch or pick one up at local harbor freight.
Freebird Posted August 20, 2009 #6 Posted August 20, 2009 If you really insist on having the stock kit, Pinwall has one on Ebay for $19.95. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-XVZ1300-1300-TOOL-POUCH-W-TOOLS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem518ab6cd20QQitemZ350219586848QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Punisher72 Posted October 1, 2009 #7 Posted October 1, 2009 I just got a 2005 RSTD and I do not know where the factory tool kit is located at. Is it under the seat and I have to remove bots to get to it?
Freebird Posted October 1, 2009 #8 Posted October 1, 2009 If it's the same as the Venture, and I would expect that it is, you should find it in the right saddlebag under the mat in the bottom.
Tartan Terror Posted October 1, 2009 #9 Posted October 1, 2009 I bought a stock tool kit on Ebay and then realized I had more than I need in the Bags already so why did I buy it. I will sell it to you for $20 plus shipping. Been sittin on my work bench for 2 years already might as will go to someone who wants it.
