MSN Favorites gone

Don't know what happened but MSN Explorer dumped all my favorites. All my bike sites are gone. Any way to go back and get these?? Won't let me log in as admnistrator. Says is Pass word protected and we don't have orginal password. I keep too much stuff in here need to start saving it to something. I'm lost without my favorites!! HELP!!

Yammer. You can try this. Go to the "Start" button. Select "All Programs" then "Accessories" then "System Tools" then "System Restore".

 

At that point you will have a window with two options. Choose to restore to a previous date. Select a date prior to your problem and follow the instructions. Remember to write down the date you choose to use in the future. That is important. Then you can always go back to that point and go from there.

 

The run whatever vurus protection and cleaning software you have before proceeding.

 

Done it a few times for "unexplained losses". Doh! Pretty safe and easy to do. Then back the thing up to disc to cover your tail feathers next time.

This MIGHT help. Download the latest version of Firefox. After it's downloaded one of the screens will ask if you want to import your IE favorites. Click YES. It should, no guarentee, import everything to Firefox from Internet Exploder.

IE and Msn Explorer are two different browsers and my fav's was not on IE. They were on Msn Explorer.

I stinks you got yourself a virus there, Yammer. Re-boot in safe mode (F8) while its booting up. Then run your anti-virus program (Check out malwareu for malwarebytes, combo-fix and hijack this, free programs). Doesn't do any good to run it whilst your in your regular run mode, as it loads the virus program then.

There should be no way that you can't log in as administrator, thats why it sounds like a virus.

According to this, the favs are not on your computer but on the MSN server. If you try to get in from another computer you may still see them.

Sometimes a "bot" will not allow you to sign on as an administrator, and not every anti-virus program will detect bots. Go to Trend Micro and download "R U Botted" It's free and will detect any bots on your computer. If one is detected you can then use Trend Micros "House Call" also free, to remove the bot.

Ok see if I can explain this. I am unable to log on as administrator to install microsoft programs due to protected password. My husbands Msn Explorer favorites of 12 years has disapeared. But I went to this site that said to do this...... To enable it, right-click the Command Prompt on the Start menu (it is likely listed under Accessories), choose Run as administrator, type net user administrator /active:yes, and press Enter. You should see a message stating that the command completed successfully. Type exit and press Enter again to close the Command Prompt window.... it Was success installed.

 

Ok I was still unable to log in due to not using the right password which i never had. OK now I did this....To disable this administrator account, follow the steps above to return to the Command Prompt in administrator mode, type net user administrator /active:no, press Enter, type exit, and press Enter again.

Now when I reboot it still tries to log in as adm which I cannot do it has an error message saying it can't log me on. I hit ok and it goes to the log in screen for all users I hit the all users and I log in. And I read this awile ago.... Once you disable the adm it can NOT be enabled again. Wish I had read that days ago.

Are you running Windows XP?

 

If so, do you have the original Windows XP installation cd that came with the computer? Not a "System Restore" cd, but the Microsoft Windows XP cd. If you do, you can do a "Repair Installation"....I can guide you through it....which will fix your issue without removing any of your saved files.

Yes we do. The Warden is running this one . Makes me feel like a idiot when it comes to computers. With her around I've never had to learn. I do know whee the switch to turn it on is!! Hopefully she will get it.

Smart lady that she is in 2004 she saved all the old favorites I thought were gone to a folder. Lost some recent ones but she is still digging.
