Well, about a year ago I purchased my 2000 MM (which I love) for a great price. My son was the finance manager at the dealership that I bought the bike from so I got a good deal.

Well, I am not really liking the color, while the bike is a pretty bike, I really like darker colored motorcycles. While I keep looking around I do not see any prices that are so high that I should concern myself with changes (painting the bike to match my choices). My opinion is that I paint it and ride it in enjoyment, or sell it and buy another. My choice of color would be a black with a small amout of blue metalflake in the paint.

My question is simply this...if I paint my bike to the color I want do you think my value on the bike will change (if it changes at all).

The biggest issue that bothers me is that my bike is number 3 ....of 1500.

Please let me know what you think......just looking for input to help me make my mind up.... Thanks for your thoughts....

I would NOT paint it.

I would rather spend the money on gas and hotels to see the USA from the saddle of a bike.

The color of my bike is the lowest of all priorities for riding enjoyment for me.

Rider and passenger comfort, power, ease of riding all take a MUCH higher priority for me than the color.

When I bought my MMVII RSV I took the blue one as I don't like black bikes as they need to be washed too often.

If they made a bike that was road dirt color, I would buy it, so I would not have to wash it...

Just my $0.025 worth.....

If I were going to keep the bike and was unhappy with the color, I would paint it. If I were going to sell it in a year or so, I feel that the MM paint scheme would make it more valuable to re-sell.

When I see a MM for sale, I think of the color of the paint and seats. Without these traits, it's just another 2nd gen.

Its your ride, make it look the way you like it.

Kinda personal preference, myself I dont know that I would paint a Millenium, especially #3 That being said it's personal expression and you only live once. If you can find a Midnight and buy it I would do that and sell the MM in it's original skin.

I would definitely NOT paint it. I feel that if you don't like the color you sell it and but one you like. The MM is that color. That is one of the things that make it a MM. I have a MM and everywhere I go I have people coming up to me and love the color. I understand that color is a personal preference but I would not ruin a MM that someone else might like to have.:2cents:

I agree, the value would surely drop if ya painted it, but if ya dont like it they do seem to sell fairly quick. The color isnt for everyone tho, but ya may consider some pinstripping or something to add some pizazz. I picked up some plastic pin grafic's for mine, which I can remove if I did ever choose to sell.

What kind of mileage and condition is that MM in?

I have always been in love with the MM.

IMHO, don't paint it. For the same reason I won't paint my Midnight, it's a special model.

Think of all of the classic cars out there are worth half of their possible value because someone changed the paint.

Your bike is both rare and beautiful, and for the sake of posterity, deserves extensive consideration as to the overall end result if you paint it (i.e., eliminating #3 of 1500 from the world). It seems that the issue here is color preference versus value (since you got a good deal). By the time you pay to have it painted I would not think there would be any significant financial advantage versus purchasing another 2000 Venture, in a color you would like, and selling the one you have.

I don't think you should change a special edition anything. I have a 2000 Daytona Grand Prix and it will always be the Galaxy Silver with the decal. My bike is a Midnight. If I painted it some other color it wouldn't be a Midnight anymore.

You said that money wasn't the issue. Buy the bike you want and put the MM up. Make it a labor of love to take your time and put her back in mint condition. You'll really have something special down the road whether people say it's worth a lot or not.

Me personally, if its a quite one and doesn't make alot of the chirp and whine then I would definitely keep it and repaint it. The next one may not be as quite. Seems like those are the real keepers regardless of color. If its a noisy one then I would take my chances with another one. As far as painting it and it hurting the value..who's to say. The next guy may really like the color.

If you're unhappy with the paint scheme as it is ( and you must be or you wouldn't have brought it up) you have 2 options. Option one is to sell it and get what you want. Option 2 is take all the parts off and have them painted to your liking.

If you are concerned about losing any value by painting, replace the bike. If yo intend to keep it and enjoy, paint it.

I have a 2007 Midnight Venture, didn't like it all black so I changed it. If I lost value because of painting it, I REALLY don't care. When it's time to sell it, it will at that time be ONE of a kind because of the paint job. There will be somebody that will fall in love with it because it is different. If not, again - who cares ?

I wouldn't paint it, because I think it is a really cool color. As far as money, the MM retails for about $400 more than a non-MM 2000 RSV.

Now if you could find someone that wanted that color, and was willing to go through the trouble of swapping side covers, fenders, lowers, bags and trunk, you could end up with a different color for just the time it takes to do it.

well, my 2 cents -

you purchased low which enables you to sell profitably.

you are not financially strapped.

you have a gem of a bike with a color you are not fond of.

your son WAS the finance manager, so selling doesn't create ill feelings with the dealership. they have a smaller chance of knowing their profit was rolled off to you.

1. keep it, as is, ride until paid for, then tuck it in a corner of your shop & buy the RSV in the color you want. or if you can afford 2 notes, just tuck it away & buy the color you want.

2. sell it and get the RSV in a color you want and have a better down payment.

i agree with the opinions offered concerning not making changes to a limited edition. It just makes the other 1400 bikes rarer & more valuable if yours gets painted.

since i don't want to have to choose between 2 bikes sitting in the garage, i would sell & purchase the color i want or buy a bike that painting won't affect the value like the MM.

OR:

Scour ebay for replacement sheet metal parts, and once you have the tank, bags, covers, fenders, fairing, and trunk, take them all to a paint shop and git er dun.

You will still have all the original sheet metal the bike came with, you wont be out much riding time to speak of, ( compared with having YOUR bike painted) and you will have what amounts to a completely new looking bike, in the color you want. You might even be able to sell the MM sheet metal, for at or above what you paid for the ebay stuff. Ive seen some of these parts going on ebay for decent prices, especially if its missing hardware, which you wont need, or has a few scuffs in the paint.

I would NOT paint over the factory MM paint, unless its in really bad shape.

( for those new to this, 'sheet metal' is a term that is used to mean the painted parts on a bike, whether steel, aluminum, plastic or fiberglass, but not including the frame, engine, wheels or forks.)

Try this.. go to Kelly Blue Book. and put in

the same year 2nd Gen... then put the MM

in there. you will noticed that the KBB Value

is higher. just my 2 cents worth.:whistling:

If you had a Picasso, and didnt like it, would you paint over it......I dont think so.......This is a collectors item, limited edition.......it will always bring more in resale as long as you keep it up.......#3 of 1500.....thats a keeper..........One of the best looking paint schemes out there.......dont ruin it...........PLEASE!!!!!!

Let's me see if I have this right.

1) You got a good deal.

2) You're thinking about throwing the savings away by painting it.

3) When you do decide to sell it you are going to take another hit on the resell and get less money for it.

4) Only 1000 were sent to the U.S. and some have been totaled and you are thinking of destroying another one.

5) As time passes and there are less MM out there the value between the regular Venture and the MM will continue to rise.

Not only would I not paint it I would not even put an accessory on it unless it was a Yamaha accessory unless it is a bolt on accessory that can be easily taken off.:no-no-no:
