Redneck Posted September 20, 2007 #4 Posted September 20, 2007 Root canals are no fun , but why did you have a crown on a tooth without having the root canal done in the first place???He didn't have a root canal he had the roots dug out with what sounds like a backhoe from the resulting damage.
Blackjack Posted September 20, 2007 #5 Posted September 20, 2007 Hey, Fred! I hope the pain subsides quickly and you have complete recovery. Terry
Eugene Posted September 20, 2007 #6 Posted September 20, 2007 Man - I sympathize - had a similar thing this past winter - OUCH!! I felt the bugger would never get his hands out of my mouth.
Marcarl Posted September 20, 2007 #7 Posted September 20, 2007 Some of these guys are butchers. others are better, but most of the time it still hurts, feeling for ya and hope you heal quick. Wife says take some Arnaka.
cbmel Posted September 20, 2007 #8 Posted September 20, 2007 That is some ugly pain. When I had it, nothing cut the pain like plain old aspirin. Not Tylenol, not Alleve, nothing could touch it like aspirin. Of course, if I'd have had some morphine handy......!
Princess M Posted September 20, 2007 #9 Posted September 20, 2007 Sorry to hear about your pain, Fred. I'm a dental assistant. Have been for 24 years. DO NOT TAKE ASPRIN! Especially after an extraction. It will cause the sight to bleed more as it is a blood thinner. It's not even good to take for a tooth ache just in case you do need to take the tooth out. The best thing for tooth pain is Ibuprofen. Most dental pain is from inflammation and ibuprofen has an anti inflammatory in it. Ice your cheek for 20 minutes on/ 20 minutes off to help reduce facial swelling. Sorry it didn't go so well. Those roots are boogers to get out. Some dentists struggle with them more than others. My boss has a great technique. Too bad you weren't around here. (Jack- a tooth doesn't have to have a root canal to have a crown, but sometimes we do have to do them after a crown is in place. Besides I can almost guarantee that Fred's tooth had a root canal done at some point.)
Tnventurer Posted September 21, 2007 Author #10 Posted September 21, 2007 Yeah This was a 8 year old root canal, The crown came off taking the middle of the tooth with it..... he gave me 5 mg Oxycodone, but it didnt touch the pain....Its better today, Just some minor swelling and a few lingering pulses of pain....Fred
