jpalese Posted August 17, 2009 #1 Posted August 17, 2009 Good Morning! I have a 2004 RSV with the factory light bar / driving lights. [The sealed beam lights] I know I asked the group the question about replacing the lights to get more light output before, but I can't find the thread or the answer ... Someone from this group told me about replacement sealed beam lights that are brighter than the factory lights, about the same wattage, and nearly plug and play. UH, they were from .... ????? J & S, J & P, I don't recall and can't find it here or even with a google search. Thanks!
KiteSquid Posted August 17, 2009 #2 Posted August 17, 2009 the sealed beam lamps are PAR36 size. Try post 14 in [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32233]THIS[/ame] thread You should be able to get these locally from a lighting distributor..... or search the part number on the Internet. Sadly, you probably will not find them at a motorcycle parts store. What beam shape do you want???????????? Wide, or narrow????? I like about 11 degrees wide to show the ditches, but I like about 5 degrees wide or narrower for driving.
silverdeer0454 Posted August 17, 2009 #3 Posted August 17, 2009 I had an issue finding 35 watt H3 lights for my 05 RSTD, plenty of 55 and 100 watt available in this area but not the 35 watt(even at wally world, sold out, more on order) and this is part of the answer I got from LilBeaver. It may be the item your looking for, hopefully this helps. A Wagner 4449 is a 30W sealed beam replacement for that (EDIT: At least this is what I use and from what I can tell they are identical to what my yamaha dealer wanted $60 each (sold in pairs of course)). (The autoparts store I got mine from had to order them... Fortunately one of the distribution centers is on the other side of town so I got it in about 45 minutes).
jpalese Posted August 17, 2009 Author #4 Posted August 17, 2009 Thanks for the info. the sealed beam lamps are PAR36 size. ... snip ... What beam shape do you want???????????? Wide, or narrow????? I like about 11 degrees wide to show the ditches, but I like about 5 degrees wide or narrower for driving. Lots of renegade whitetails up here - what beam shape will be best for deer avoidance at night - wider for the ditches or narrower to see farther? Can the RSV electrical system handle the 50W version or must I use the 35W?? Regards, John
jlh3rd Posted August 17, 2009 #5 Posted August 17, 2009 the 50 w will blow the fuse....i know, as i did not wire the lamps seperate......the 35w will not..... there are posts on here that will show you how to wire the lamps seperate using a relay..........which is what i'm gonna do when i get time also, as far as total charging capacity.....most people feel the 2nd gen system is lacking......lots of post on that subject also
Squidley Posted August 17, 2009 #6 Posted August 17, 2009 Both the 1st and 2nd gen will handle the 55 watt bulbs, but I always use the 35 watt to ease up on the charging system. 35 watts are hard to find but I had a website that was posted where I could buy the Hella 35 watt. I'll try to get that info when I get home as it's save on the home computer.
