dragerman Posted August 12, 2009 #1 Posted August 12, 2009 Just placed an ad for a new GARMIN 2009 Map Update. The package is sealed, has never been opened and comes with an Authorization Code. I bought this to upgrade my ZUMO 550 but got a new one that already has the upgrade. First $80 takes it.
RoadKill Posted August 13, 2009 #2 Posted August 13, 2009 Is this the lifetime update? Just courious cause your price. I thought the one time updates were less than that, but lord knows I could be dreaming.
CrazyHorse Posted August 13, 2009 #3 Posted August 13, 2009 Think I paid like $180 for lifetime updates. If I remeber right.
Dano Posted August 13, 2009 #5 Posted August 13, 2009 I stopped at the truck stop and bought a new Atlas for about ten bucks..........
FreezyRider Posted August 13, 2009 #6 Posted August 13, 2009 I stopped at the truck stop and bought a new Atlas for about ten bucks.......... Let's see that sucker automatically calculate a new route in 3 seconds when you get turned around and miss your road. Good luck getting it to tell you where the nearest gas station is....or restaurant....or hospital (had to use mine for that once, no fun). Mine also tells me my true ground speed, my charging system voltage, the time of day, and almost anything else I set it up to do. To me, it sounds like the Atlas is a rip-off!!!
RoadKill Posted August 13, 2009 #7 Posted August 13, 2009 I stopped at the truck stop and bought a new Atlas for about ten bucks.......... Some of you Indiana guys just can't handle this high technology:rasberry:
FreezyRider Posted August 13, 2009 #8 Posted August 13, 2009 Some of you Indiana guys just can't handle this high technology:rasberry: It's usually just those 1st genners.....they seem to enjoy living in the past. Heck, most of 'em still have 45rpm record players at home! :stirthepot:

Mine also tells me my true ground speed, my charging system voltage, the time of day, and almost anything else I set it up to do. To me, it sounds like the Atlas is a rip-off!!! I have automatic route notification(head slap by Nav!); I wanna stop there to eat (again by Nav!); blur of the trees going by tells me my speed and the shock of the sound barrier; lights are still bright (voltage OK), clock on dash (try THAT one G2'rs!), tell Nav what we're doing (set-up) Some of you Indiana guys just can't handle this high technology:rasberry: Most Indiana guys don't need high-tech to get around! It's usually just those 1st genners.....they seem to enjoy living in the past. Heck, most of 'em still have 45rpm record players at home! :stirthepot: Well, we usually leave the Barcalounger in front of the TV where it belongs!! And how do YOU listen to your Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons? In your cassette player on a brand new bike? :witch_brew: We still ride 1st gens because they haven't come up with a better model yet!
saddlebum Posted August 13, 2009 #10 Posted August 13, 2009 If like adventure, and have good sense of direction, get a map. If you need to be led on a leash to get were you wanna be, get a GPS:big-grin-emoticon:

I don't get it... After all why would you even try to change perfection:big-grin-emoticon:
dragerman Posted August 13, 2009 Author #12 Posted August 13, 2009 Is this the lifetime update? Just courious cause your price. I thought the one time updates were less than that, but lord knows I could be dreaming. This is the one time update for 2009 and the price is in Canadian dollars. I bought it on sale at the spring motorcycle show to replace my 2006 version. I paid a bit more then that for it and just want to recover some loss. GARMIN was pretty good with their service and replaced my GPS, when I received the new unit it came with the 2009 maps. The new unit is working great.
edger Posted August 13, 2009 #13 Posted August 13, 2009 I wouldn't be without my GPS. No stopping to look at the map taking up time that could be spent riding. I can be coming up to a town, put in restaurants and know exactly where I'm going to eat by picking through a list and go straigh to it without having to wonder whats available and trying to drive around looking for a place that I might want to eat at. That alone to me is worth it. Put in everything else you can do with them and I say they're worth their weight in gold! Just MHO.
BEER30 Posted August 13, 2009 #14 Posted August 13, 2009 You left out the most important reason to have an Atlas on board.....it doubles as TP behind that roadside bush ! That give a hole new meaning to the dark-side of the world or state depending on what page your on/using , even in the daylight .:8: BEER30
BoomerCPO Posted August 13, 2009 #15 Posted August 13, 2009 You left out the most important reason to have an Atlas on board.....it doubles as TP behind that roadside bush ! That give a hole new meaning to the dark-side of the world or state depending on what page your on/using , even in the daylight .:8: BEER30 Geez Beer ya gotta get with the program. TP should be carried inna zip-lock bag on the scoot. Why ruin a perfectly good road map? Boomer.........who also knows being in the bushes with yer pants down around yer ankles can lead to real complications.
LilBeaver Posted August 13, 2009 #16 Posted August 13, 2009 TP should be carried inna zip-lock bag on the scoot. Why ruin a perfectly good road map? Or one could just shimmy around in the grass like the animals do. That way you don't risk the harm caused by the non-biodegradable plastic bag being disposed of improperly and all of the polution created during the production of the TP. If you would prefer the more refined method of grabbing some of those leaves that tends to be a little easier on some parts. The atlas is handy at this point because it gives you something to read allowing you to be efficient and plan the next place you would like to go. :-P
