Vibration/Rattle From The Trunk Area

I have a very nice '99 RSV, but I am getting the most annoying rattle and vibration from the area of the backrest, speaker housing or trunk that I cannot identify. I've tightened every bolt and screw I can find, lubed the trunk lid hinges, removed and reinstalled everything from the front seat on back to the trunk, and still cannot find the source. I've had my wife sit backward on the rear seat while we rode up and down the street to try to isolate it, but even she can't nail it down. The speakers work OK at all volumes, so I don't think it's them, unless it's inside the housing itself. I'm stumped.

 

Any ideas?

I have the same thing on my 06 Midnight, started JUST before our road trip to see Skydoc in PA.. I did discover which general area mine is located in and if I jam a "ShamWow" (yeah, they do work!) between the rear seat and the lower plates under the right rear speaker, the buzz-rattle goes away.. but I can't figure out just exactly is making the noise.. I'll save that for this winter when I can pull it all apart properly..

 

However, my cure for that rattle is to re-install the Larosa pipes back on.. What rattle, what whine? What's that ringing noise in my ears though?? (ear plugs a must)

 

Addemdum... I went riding last night and that frikken buzzing / rattling noise was bugging me so badly, I pulled over on the side of the road and gave the hinge bolts an extra turn and voila.. buzz gone.. dang.. wished I had thought of it earlier!!

On my 05 RSV I had the most annoying squeak back there. Tightened every bolt I could find, still the squeak persisted. I wound up taking the trunk off completely, cracking and re tightening all visible bolts under the trunk, in the side trunks and when I put it all back together, the squeak was gone. I have no idea what fixed it but its gone!

FREAKIN SQUEEEEEaaaaK!!!!!! This squeak came back. I tore the whole trunk apart again. I took the center panel off between the rear speakers and shoved a rag in each side as suggested. Still the squeak persisted.

 

Turns out, one of the support rails from the trunk platform was the culprit. The bolt was tight but I found out also stripped. So it felt tight but wasn't tightening against the frame. Worked that bolt out, replaced and the squeak is gone.
