I'm looking at a 2006 RSV with low mileage (8,000 miles). The paint has many scratches. One big one on the tank but no dents. I looks like some kids were using it for a jungle gym. I can't see any signs to indicate that it was dropped, just not cared for. I'm going to take it for a test ride later this week. If it's mechanically sound I will make an offer on the bike (low offer).

I'm new to the RSV so I need advice on what to look for to make a good evaluation.

Thanks:mo money:

Take it to 25 in second. If its got the whine you'll notice it there. If its doesn't bother you then take 2nd to 45 and wind it out to 85 in third(and that's takin it easy on the bike). Then you'll have an idea of what the beast can do. They are pretty solid machines.

I would check the oil level ,inspect the tires, and check air pressure before jumping on for a ride......:whistling:

If everything checks out.....RIDE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT.

Thanks folks for the help.

This bike looks like it was never kept in a garage or covered. would this harm the radio?

Being left outside can cause havoc on all electrical connections so make sure all lights and switches horn all work before taking off, try cruise control (it doesn't work at low speed) You will see if the radio works but it seems to be sealed.

Go get a cold one and read this.......:thumbsup2:

Its both actually. You have to be in 4th or 5th gear, and I believe you have to be going over 50mph. Take a look at your indicator lights next time you're out. They show when you have the ability to set the cruise (4th or 5th gear as previously stated).

Also, if you have the cruise set in the low 50s, and approach a hill, the delay in the bike's responding to needing more acceleration may drop you below 50mph, which will disengage the cruise control.

Ride Safe.

Seaking, whose 06 MIDNIGHT RSMV just rolled 44,000 miles after coming out of the shop today.. (24,000 of those were put on since last july! =)

Cruise control works in 4th or 5th at speeds between 30 MPH and 80 MPH as per the owners manual. 30 mph is doable but not good in 4th gear.

Look at the oil in the site glass on the lower right side, smell the oil cap on the right side.

Look for leaking rear shocks.

Look at the tires and the brand...are they both the same brand...when was the last time the tires were replaced?

Look for rust in the gas tank.

Look at the crash bars on the front and rear...look at the corners...has it been dropped?

All indicator lights work on the dash? All blinkers and brake lights work. Headlight should work all the time while the key is on.

Radios work? AM. FM. CB?

If it checks out, barter till you can get it. you won't be disappointed. yes these bikes have some quirks, but everything has quirks. i love our RSV. just don't try to drive it a ditch. don't ask me how i know that!

Good advise has been given, but I'll drop this in. If it's been kept outside, I would seriously lowball on price. You dont want to chase electrical gremlins on this bike and it doesn't sound like it's been well taken care of if it's been left outside
