BigLenny Posted August 5, 2009 #1 Posted August 5, 2009 Hey folks, I'm brand new to this site, as a matter of fact, this is my first thread. So, here's the first question I have. I am looking at purchasing a new Ultimate Seat for my 2007 RSTD, does anybody out there have this seat on their RSTD. Pros, and cons? Also, I am tossing around the idea of purchasing a center stand for my bike. Is Rivco the only manufacturer of one that fits the RSTD, or are there other less expensive alternatives? Pros, and cons please.
BigLenny Posted August 5, 2009 Author #2 Posted August 5, 2009 By the way, I forgot to mention that I'm 6'6", and 300 lbs. I've tried the mustang seat, but it seems to push me too far forward. I wonder if the Ultimate will do that as well?
bobbyduck Posted August 5, 2009 #3 Posted August 5, 2009 I have had an Ultimate seat for 3 seasons now and like it pretty well. I am 5'6" and weigh about 270 pounds, so it wasn't built exactly right for me - more like for someone 6 ft tall. I just had the front end of mine narrowed and lowered by a small amount and haven't ridden again yet. But for the build you described for yourself, I would expect the Ultimate to be bang on.... One note is I tried the Yamaha/Corbin "Comfort Cruise" seat and would never own one. I tried to break it in but it won the battle, not me! It is absolutely the most uncomfortable brick that I ever sat on, and I have had 3 Corbin seats on other bikes, each one was superb. This Comfort Cruise seat, however, was simply awful. Also the Comfort Cruise seat raised me up about 1.5 - 2 inches, which I did not need with my 29 inch inseam....! Good Luck!
Shipper Posted August 5, 2009 #4 Posted August 5, 2009 Another plug for Rick Butler. I didn't think I could ride 50 miles on the stock seat, and sent it to Butler. Just got through with 310 miles with no problems. Can't say anything about the center stand, but I use a locking chock that is moveable between my trailer and garage-steady as a rock. Made by Baxley in Dothan, AL.
keithert Posted August 6, 2009 #5 Posted August 6, 2009 I had the Yamaha/Corbin seat on my 99 back in 2000. We did a long trip on it immediately after purchase with no issues. However i also had no issues with the stock seat so I sold the Corbin. The Venture is the ONLY bike I can say I've had no issues with the stock seat on! I had a center stand on my Venture also. The person that made it stopped doing so long ago. I really liked the stand though. I'd pay what Rivco wants for one.
Stoutman Posted August 6, 2009 #6 Posted August 6, 2009 (edited) I put a first gen center stand with the Freebird bracket on my RSTD. Works great. I noticed there is one for sale in the classifieds section. I also put the leveling links on that make the back of the bike about one inch taller. With the leveling links, the stand does not drag unless I am really pushing a left hand turn. I love the servicability of the stand. Washing the bike and changing the oil are made much easier with the center stand. I am also 6' 4" and 300 pounds, and I have the mustang seat. I agree that it pushes you forward, and without a 1 1/4 inch thick cushion I don't think I could use it for that very reason. The thick seat cushion gives me the legroom I need. Once I discovered that the cushion helps, I didn't go after a replacement for the mustang seat. I can get 500 miles a day with the mustang seat / thick cushion combo. That said, the Rick Butler seat mod is highly praised on this site. You may contact Rick to discuss a seat mod for you. It may be the cheaper and better alternative. Edited August 6, 2009 by Stoutman
