naturbar Posted August 5, 2009 #1 Posted August 5, 2009 i am working with an eBay seller (axe63) who makes very affordable backrests for various model Yamahas - however he does NOT make one for the RSTD. i told him i would post here, asking for someone on this forum to take a ride to him for him to take some measurements (would need to remove seat). if anyone is interested and can help please let me know and i'll get more details...thanks to all ! :-) Buz
FreezyRider Posted August 5, 2009 #2 Posted August 5, 2009 Afraid I can't help on your request, but I'm curious....is he the one who sells the non-adjustable backrest? I've looked at those but can't see how they could help if you can't adjust them to suit your own build. Joe
eagleeye Posted August 5, 2009 #3 Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) I could ride down in a week. this weekend is booked, but weekend after I could go. I have an 05 RSTD and would like one for myself. I'll check him out on ebay. Steve I just contacted him, so I'll let you know how this is going to work out. BTW, I do not have the stock seat, have a studded mustang. But he should be able to work around that. Edited August 5, 2009 by eagleeye
naturbar Posted August 5, 2009 Author #4 Posted August 5, 2009 Joe, i'm not certain but i do not see any verbiage on his ebay site which states it's adjustable. Steve, thank you for contacting him, please keep us posted as to any progress. fyi his sight does say that his backrest works with stock seat and rear seat is required.
CrazyHorse Posted August 5, 2009 #5 Posted August 5, 2009 I would its not to far from me but I have 1st Gen
naturbar Posted August 5, 2009 Author #6 Posted August 5, 2009 jimbob5, thank you for the offer but the bike needs to be a royal star tour deluxe - i am not certain the venture & RSTD are the same...anyone know for sure??
naturbar Posted August 6, 2009 Author #7 Posted August 6, 2009 The guy who wants to see the RSTD bike is Lonnie and his Ph.# is 608.346.1337....give him a call if you can take your bike to him....thanks to all..............!!
keithert Posted August 6, 2009 #8 Posted August 6, 2009 I have worked with Lonnie on a backrest for my Vulcan 1500. He custom made a bracket for me and it worked great. He says it is not adjustable for insurance reasons. The bracket can be bent a bit to suit your taste. For a new design he will give the backrest for free to the person that brings him the bike to fabricate off of.

eagleeye Posted August 23, 2009 #10 Posted August 23, 2009 I made it down to "Grasshopper Limited" to see Lonnie last thurs., and he made a backrest for my 05 RSTD. I've got about 500 miles on since and love it. Like Keith says, it can be bent to suit your needs. I have a studded mustang seat, so I told Lonnie that when I could, I'd put the stock seat on and send him a pic so he could see how the receiver would work on a stock seat. I did that this morning. You should be all set to contact him and have him make you one. Here is his contact info: 608-346-1337-----bfcm28@yahoo.com Steve
