Yep, the bike and I are home.

After about two weeks of rain, I awoke to a beautiful morning, checked the weather channel and rain appeared to be south and east of me, Smokey Mountain to the Asheville area. So, I decided to take a ride toward south west Virginia, which ended up being Kentucky. I was alone as Laura is in Birmingham on the way to Gulf Shores, AL. visiting her sisters and brother.

The bike was running absolutely great. So much pull at 40mph in 5th that I just knew I had to be in 4th . I rode thru shady two lanes that had a wall of mountain and trees on one side and a deep ravine on the other side and feeling like you were in the middle of no where. Just a perfect motorcycle day.

I dropped off the mountain down in to Harlan, KY to a four lane and strip malls. I then found down town and it was a very pretty small town. But, while riding thru town, my bike started the intermittent cutting off and back on, real bad. I was able to make it back out on to the four lane and pulled into where an Advance Auto was located. Then it quit and would not restart.

After determining my problem was electrical, as in getting no spark, I started going thru the usual checks of side stand switch, any connections I could find, such as those connected to the TCI and struck out.

After messing around with it for about three hours, I started looking for help getting it home. My first call was to "SGN", Steve Neal, and we discussed our options, He had a commitment that was going to take a little time then he was going to load up his trailer and come after me. I then realized I had "Hairman", Tim's phone number saved, so I called him. His response was I will get the trailer and be there as soon as I can. And he was.

I was hoping to just get the bike back part of the way, but Tim insisted on bringing me all the way home, which would be at least a 250 mile round trip for him all together, and he did not one time make fun of my antique 1st gen. What a guy.

So, I am home and tired and getting ready to get some sleep. Tomorrow I will start the searches on the TCI checks and start looking at the other electrical stuff. But tonight I am just real thankful I have had the honor and pleasure in meeting some real good people on this website. Thanks very much Tim and Steve.

He didn't make fun of your antique? sounds like one heck of a nice guy. Glad you got it home and I hope you find the problem soon.

I think it is just awesome that folks are responding this way to someone stranded on the road with their scoot. Take a hard look at what our society in general has evolved into and you have to admit that we have a damn good thing going on with this Venture Site folks!!

Randy called and I was on the way to do some final shopping for the bother-in-law's birthday. We had a cookout with a group from our church that I was the reason for the cookout, then later into the family thing for the birthday.

 

Being away from the computer I called the bother in law and walked him through signing on to the web site and posting the first message, I also had him find the list of members to get Tim's phone number because Randy and I knew he was close.

 

Not finding his number was when I resorted to walking the bother in law through posting that Randy was in need of help, hoping someone would see and call Randy to see if they could help him.

 

My wife said get the trailer ready when we get home and be ready to go to Harlan, so we had a plan B

 

Randy found Tim's number and Tim got to play the white knight and come to the recuse.

 

As our family got togeather for the birthday my bother in law asked if the guy with the broke bike had gotten any help and I told him that I had talked to Randy and that he was home and the bike had been unloaded about five minutes ago.

 

Borther in law thought it was amazing that we had a group that would come to the aid of another so fast and I told him that it seems to be "no big thing" for this group. You guys made me proud to show my extended family that not all "bikers" are crud.

 

Now for a little soap box - If you have not completed your profile on the members list, PLEASE do so, you never know when you might be the next one to need help.

 

RandyA was the first Venturider.org member I met - without his help my 83 would never have been salvaged from the scrap heap. It was really hard for me to put is call for help aside and not instantly head out to get him and his bike home, THANK YOU Tim for taking up the slack. Dinner is on me when you get down this way again.

Glad to see you made it home Randy,we do have alot of great people here willing to help out in another' s time of need.Hope you find the problem fast and keep us posted.

I told Warden it was good chance for me to check out Tarus I bought but he was on his way home before I got hold of him. Only could have took tools anyway.. I need a trailer!

I just made it back home. This is my biggest fear with riding a motorcycle. Always afraid I will break down and not get any help. Where Randy broke down at used to be called bloody harlan. I believe if he would have had to leave his bike over night that it probably wouldn't have been there in the morning. I was glad to help out. Never know when you might need the favor returned. Venture Riders need to stick together and help each other out whenever possible. Hope you get your bike fixed soon. If you need any help I would be glad to do whatever I can. I know where you live now. Hairman
